Last I checked, Sprint doesn't use GSM. They're another company that uses some form of CDMA/TDMA for their cell network.

Now if you had Voicestream....you'd be in good shape.

$200 bucks to upgrade to OS 3.5

The way I see it....is that they are really charging $200 bucks to upgrade to palm OS 3.5. And I thought Palm was greedy for charging $20 to upgrade to 3.5.

I will NEVER buy another Handspring product if it doesn't have flash RAM.

Will you be able to use the phone springboard module to access dialup information systems like an ISP? Skip the modem and cable to a cellphone and now there is advantage to a Visor phone.

HEHEHEHEHEHEH I just got home from school.. SO COOOOL!! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE take a deeep breath..

Wow! A palm with 60,000+ colors! now handspring might be doing something correct. BUT they better have more pixels, at 120 you can't use color it wil kill your eyes. Especially at 60,000!!!
IF I had that much money though, I would get a pocket PC, because of the form factor (iPaq) and the aps available. we'll see.

VISOR PLATINUM

Now this I might get one day. (It's faster then my linux box!! (25 Mhz.) Though, why do yo uneed 25 Mhz on a palm. MAYBE springboards will be able to use more stuff on the visor.

I will NEVER get the cell-phone module. 300 bucks for something that lets me talk to my visor, forget it. I'll just get one of those cute nokia's

Well, then you'll never buy another Handspring product because there's no such thing as flash RAM. I had this discussion with James earlier this week

It's Flash EPROM. RAM stands for Random Access Memory and I can assure you that Flash is decidedly not capable of random access. Flash is eraseable only in blocks and programmable only sequentially. If you don't wish to call it Flash EPROM for fear of confusing people, then just stick to the term "Flash" - it may not be as technically descriptive but at least it's not inaccurate.

Now, on a totally different note, can someone tell me why there is such a compelling need to upgrade to PalmOS 3.5? As a developer, I just don't see where it offers any significant improvements when running on the standard Visor hardware. Am I missing something here? This is not intended as a flame ... I truly am curious.

I used to be pretty adamant that there was no color "killer app" for a Palm OS device and so I saw no need for a color Visor. Then I saw the Geoview software for the Geode....

I was hoping that the price would be a little lower than $449.

I'm also worried that with rechargable Li-Ion batteries that the hotsync connector will change, a la Palm V, making my Stowaway obsolete.

"A lower end version of the Palm IIIc"? I think Mr Thor might not be the best "independent analyst." Or there's something else that we're not being told.

I still want one, though!

Cell Phone Module

The cell phone module would be really great and a must buy (for me) if you could use it to surf the web, e-mail, etc.. Other wise, I might as well get a decent nokia (etc) and a module like the Sixpack & cable. Or wait for the mobile access module from http://www.wirelessspringboard.com (or similar type module).. I'm not a big cell phone user, I'd be surprised if I use mine more than 5 times a month. So if it's just a glorified cell phone it has little value for me.

As far as the Prism being low-end, I think it may be a case of Palm snobbery, anything that isn't a true "Palm made product", the author may consider to be low-end regardless of it's features or technology.

Well for what it's worth I have absolutely NO interest in going colour either. I bought my Visor to use it primarily to keep myself organized and to occupy my time on long flights with it's lame little games. I actually got WAY more than I expected when I bought this little beauty. I had no idea it would be as all around useful as it's turned out to be.

Colour and possibly the ability to play MP3s etc adds zero value to me. Especially for that price. I'm sure this one is gonna last me a while.

ah well, here are my thoughts on the subject: I intend to upgrade before next school year (I realy hope that handspring dosn't come out with a new handheld every year because I will never buy any thing else) While I like the benifts of color (easy reading, Li-on battery) I will probly get the Platium because i don't like the fact that the lion batterys are non replaceable and when it dies you need to get a new unit. and I would like 8 megs of ram ( I have a visor solo) but I will just upgrade to a Blue Visor Delux if my stowaway isn't compatable.

I sure hope the color model has flashROM. I don't mind my $250 visor doesn't but if I pay that much for the color unit I would like it to be upgradable...
