Unhappy The fall of Handspring

With the announcement of the Prism and now the Edge, Handspring has sealed its fate and the days are numbered. Handspring can not survive on the TREO line alone. It is a restrictive line that may be trending but functionality survives trending every time.

Springboard modules will become a thing of the past and those who have an investment in them will find themselves possessing either relics or valuable assets.

Handspring should have paralelled the development of the TREO with a slim form factor, color visor. For what it is worth, I am very dissappointed in Handsprings approach to this technological market.

Ditto

Same here. A slimmer VisorPrism (commonly referred to as the much longed-for PrismII) should have been released shortly after the TREO180. Now, Handspring has alienated their Springboard Developers (no, I'm not one of them-thank goodness), I'm sure some of their customers feel the same.

The TREO is a nice product, my wife loves hers. But for me, I won't part with my VisorPrism (Upgraded to 16MB), VisorPhone, MemPlug CF and Eyemodule2 to have a single non-expandable device. This is why I invested my time and money into Handspring products, expandability. SONY devices are looking much more attractive (Camera, Memory Expansion and Bluetooth) these days. Once an integrated phone option exists, I'll swap.

Although, if Handspring ever comes to their senses and releases a slimmer Color Organizer that accepts Springboards, I'll likely consider it before jumping ship permanently. It is sad that Handspring is dumping the Prism/Edge with nothing new along the same product line. That is a very negative connotation for the future of the Visor Product line.

Just my .02 worth.

In the Avatar, she is playing some tunes on the SoundsGood MP3 player. It's amazing how fast kids can learn if you give them a chance. Now if I could just keep her from making those long distance calls on my VisorPhone...

HS is not smart anymore

What the heck happened to handsprings common sense? They dropped the prism and now the Edge? They are such idiots and I will not get A TREO until they have springboard slot.

Don't think that can happen, Mr. Kessler told us why once, something about the phone part of the treo takes the place of the circuitry to enable the modules to work and that they couldn't work together.

You have engineers on the payroll to figure out stuff like that. The new Palm m5xx series has a memory slot and an expansion port. Why in the world can't Handspring do some some reengineering if they need to? Make a new type of slot if they have to with an adapter for the old springboards. Add a SD/MMC slot, a hi-res screen, bluetooth, a real speaker, headphone jack, and the phone. Why does it seem to be so hard for them to see this stuff?

Maybe they'll do that for a Palm OS 5 version, but I wont be holding my breath.

I just got my Prism after they were discontinued. I've wondered the same thing. Has anyone noticed the thin little groove on the Prism's top, between the seam and the SB Module? Was this part of the die for future integration of SM support, but never used?

Just wondering. Prolly has something to do with the original covers....

I think you are talking about the universal connector. We'll just have to ask D.K. if that could be done.

I think that's just for SBs to latch on to. It's a little too thin for even a MMC or SD card to fit into.
I have seen the folks at handspring reply on these boards before, I wish that if they are going to do some engineering along those line they would at least acknowledge our concerns. I got a Prism because it was the only color Palm that I could get that would take a 512 Mb expansion card. Someone will catch a clue and make the PDA/phone of our dreams soon. Is anyone at Samsumg or Sony listening? Until then I'll keep my Prism and my Samsung 8500.
