Newbie best of the best list

Maybe some of you have seen me around visorcentral lately. I am a soon to be Visor owner and just wanted to know what are some of the best things for the Visor handhelds

Best Springboard Modules

Best Accessories

Best Places To Download Free Visor/Palm OS Software

Best Communications Solutions

Best Places To Purchase Modules and Accesories

Best Store Purchased Software

Thanks for your help

These topics have been discussed exhaustively on these boards so do a search for them. Regardless, I'm happy to share my opinions.

My favorite modules: Matchbook Drive and SoundsGood. (Both discontinued.)

Accessories: Pentopia stylus and Targus Stowaway.

Places to download free software: FreewarePalm

...as for software you better do a search - because there are lots of great suggestions on this board.

My opinions:
Springboard: GPS, and backup module
Accesories: Neoprene case, thumboard
Software: AtomSmash
go to www.palmgear.com
or www.handago.com

Good Luck,
Frank

Lightbulb

Hey,

Modules: 8mb flash module (for memory expansion), innopak/2v (2mb of memory and vibrating alarm) & eyemodule2 digital camera (mini pictures, 480 x 640 pictures and movies need I say more)

Accesories: Pentopia pen stylus, & handspring neophrene case

Free Visor/Palm OS Software: www.freewarepalm.com I also get my software from www.palmgear.com which is great you can also try www.handango.com but I don't like it too much.

Best Communications Solutions: I do not have a wireless device but I hear that blazer is good and avantgo is excellent (I use it as an offline browser but you can use it as a online browser as well).

Best Places To Purchase Modules and Accesories: I find that staples has a clearance on modules and accesories for the visor but you have to dig in the bins that they put the items in (I got my innopak/2v for $1.00 and prism gameface for $9.90. The gameface comes with Zap 2016 and if you contact astraware they give you the latest version). I also find from these board that target is a real good place to find bargains. An online store that I find has good deals is www.consumerdepot.com.

Best Store Purchased Software: Sorry to say but there is none. Store bought software is a joke!! I would not buy store bought software unless it's very cheap.

I hope this helps!!

The Pilot Pentopia Stylus is a good purchase. Pen, Pencil, and Stylus all in one, works like a champ. I have used mine almost everyday since I purchased in January 2002.

Best SpringBoard:
I'm surprised that nobady mentioned the Audible Advisor (maybe I'm just a book worm). Go to audible.com and purchase a subscription to their service and you have immediate access to thousands of Audio books. Then you can load them into the Springboard Module (which is free with subscription) and listen to audio books while on the go. You can listen to about 4 hours on the Module's memory (16MB) or you can just use it as flash memory.

I also use the DataQuake 8MB (LED and Vibrating alert), but the Audible Advisor is what I leave in ALL the time.

DO NOT BE FOOLED! DON'T GET THE EYEMODULE! IT'S NOT WORTH THE HEARTACHE. It takes too much time to make the pictures presentable. If you really want pictures, spend the extra cash on the EyeModule2...I've borrowed my friend's, and it works well.

Software:
For the price I would have to say QuickOffice is probably the best WordProcessor/SpreadSheet app. They have great customer service too.

Best site:
Everyone knows it...freewarepalm.com.

Best Visor:
Well, the price is always falling...I have the Visor Pro, and it is really nice to have all that excess room.

I would have to say:

Best Springboard:
aside from the obvious memory ones, the springboard that gave me the most dependable service and the one I miss the most is my parafone (www.myparafone.com). I mean sure you can use it only as a phone, but I used it SO much, especially being able to dial straight from your address book or caller ID list, it's simply my favorite.

Best Software:
Game: Simcity, you can play Simcity classic ANYWHERE (Though those PPC guys get Simcity 2000, no fair)
App: Avantgo...possibly the most useful Program I have (well had) on my trusty Neo, and best of all, IT'S FREE!!!!
Hack: Lefthack, for all you southpaws out there, this one is simply irreplacable...for all you rightys (you think your sooo special) I would recommend ClockPop and Matrix hack.

Best Visor:
Treo 90! no wait best visor...hmm...well mine was a blue Neo and I loved it (just sold it for a Treo) to death and am going to miss it dearly.

Best Place to use Wireless Ethernet Sprinboard and Visor:
Walk around a downtown core (even into some buildings) and see how many networks you can connect to..I was even able to get onto the internet with a few...had a secret spot in Vancouver I could sit and surf the net for a while....

Best Place to play Bejeweled:
Hands down on the john...or on the bus/train/LRT/airplane/anything moving.

Best Place to kill your Visor:
2 words....Grand Canyon.

Best Case to protect your Visor as it plummets down the canyon face:
Vaja...

hmmm..I think that's about it...any questions comments email me
Alex.

you guys rule you seriously do. I spent a few days out at all the Handheld stores. I saw the Pentopia, Innopak, thumb board, and a few of the other accessories that have been mentioned. I purchased a stowaway keyboard! I still need to hit up CompUSA and any online store to buy some of these great accesories.

What Online stores sell some of these great products at good prices?

Oh and keep this list coming it is helping a lot

Based on my personal experiences:

Best case (Deluxe/Neo): While I dearly love Vaja De$ign$, my vote goes to the RhinoSkin 1100 and the Fellowes Bumper Case.

Best Case (Prism): Vaja Designs!

Best Input Device: Stowaway Keyboard (or GoType if you need a rigid surface)

Best Module (Memory/backup): FlashPlus or MemPlug

Best Module (Other): eyemodule2

Best Accessories: Pentiopia Chameleon Stylus, travel hot-sync/charge cable, NiMH batteries and charger to replace alkaline AAA's

Best Freeware Sites: Freewarepalm, Palm Boulevard, downloads.com, tucows

Best Sources for Cheap Stuff: big stores with clearance bins or good sales adds, Amazon.com used stuff, ConsumerDepot.com, Egghead and Yahoo Auctions, VisorCentral Marketplace!

Best Reviews Sites: VisorCentral, www.the-gadgeteer.com
