Question

Does a Visor Plat. come setup to run PQA's or do I need to load something to get them to work?

TIA for the help.

Instructions for installing and setting up your Visor (Prism/Platinum) to run PQA's can be found at this site.

I installed the PQA's and the files like the site instructed, but I still cannot access any sites. Whenever I try to use a PQA they always tell me that the site cannot be contacted, and to try again at a later time . I know that my internet connection is good because I can browse or check my email at the same time when I'm working on the PQA's. Does anybody else have these problems?

You have to be certain that this is done! Can be a little tricky to enable.

FYI:
------------------------------------------------------------
Step 3 is the "Prefs" icon from the (default)PalmOS launcher (not YADA YADA's)

Step 5 is the hard part, may take a few tries to get it right.

Step 6 , the menu referred to is within the PQA itself (i.e. the starbuck locator)

How to fix PQAs with Non-Palm VIIs/OmniSky

If you're using PQAs but *not* using a Palm VII(x) or Palm V(x) with OmniSky, then you might have noticed that as of last Wednesday things stopped working. Palm.Net changed the developer's proxy server IP which is what you're using if you're connecting through a standard ISP. If you're still using your PQAs and nothing seems wrong, you can ignore this post. Otherwise, here are the steps to fix it.

1. Install the Palm 7 libs on your machine (where you get these is up to you)
2. Soft-reset your machine
3. Go to Apps->Prefs. On the general screen, make a small counter-clockwise circle in the lower-right corner of the "General" screen. If you do this right, a small "easter egg" will show up (literally).
4. Run any Web clipping app which uses the Clipper library menus. Apps such as Palm.net, Mapquest-to-go, and Yahoo Mail will work. (you can get these apps at http://www.palm.net).
5. Make four separate taps in the lower-right corner. Space the taps out a bit so they aren't interpreted as a double tap.
6. A "hidden" menu should now show up when you tap the silk menu button. Select "Options->Preferences".
7. Change the proxy server to "209.247.202.106". Hit OK.
8. You should now be able to use your PQAs again.

Talking PQA on VPL

I just downloaded JPSPQA browser from JP Systems and I am happy with it. Before getting JPSPQA, I was not able to run a PQA. With this browser, things are running great so far (w/o any additional software downloaded).

And if you want a no-brainer install (and a "legal" installation of the PQA support software), you can buy Palm's Mobile Internet Kit software.

This product works fine on the Visor Prism, and should work on the Platinum as well. (It requires OS 3.5, though, so that leaves out the Visor and Deluxe.) It adds PQA support, and it includes a few other programs such as Multimail SE.

Speakercoach, where did you find the JP Systems browser? I don't see it on their page anymore.

Thanks, Stephan!

It'll be interesting to see what JPS charges for those... The PQA browser's a real boon to folks with OS 3.1.

I installed the mobile internet kit on my visor platinum and the PQA's will open, but whenever it needs to go to the internet for information, instead of dialing into my isp, a window opens that says "please raise the antenna for wireless transactions".
If I establish a connection before using a PQA file, it terminates the connection, and tells me to raise the antenna.
Multimail works just fine however,as does avantgo. Any ideas anyone?
I emailed both Palm and Handspring and they just tell me they don't support the others software or hardware, etc....
