Red face repeating resets + VP

Wow, I ran into a distressing bug this past weekend while I was on the road. Bad place to be for it too.

I've got a VisorPhone and lukily I had Hot Synced before I left. Anyway, I made two business calls and was about to make a third. I noticed that I had either roamed out of service (VoiceStream) or was under too much cover for service. I turned off the phone and turned it back on again. I got a new error message that said something like: "There is a problem with your SIM card. Re-install it or exchange it with your provider."

So I removed the phone and re-inserted the SIM card. Plugged the phone back in but the Visor didn't turn back on. I thought that was weird so I reset the Visor. It came out of reset but immediately reset again... and again, and again, and again. I couldn't stop it. So I held reset again and same thing. So I removed one battery for a few seconds, not long enough for my data to be lost.

This time, reset didn't cycle but just froze at the PalmOS boot up screen with a little blinking cursor in the upper left corner. Never came up though. I hit reset again and no change.

I tried these variations with and without the phone in the Visor. Finally, not knowing what to do, I removed the batteries long enough for a full discharge and then powered the Visor back up. It came up, but of course was blank. Lost all the information I had input into the Visor since the trip began.

And the thing is, even if I did own the 8MB backup module it wouldn't have done any good in this case. This crash occurred in the middle of use during the day. I would likely only use a backup module in the evenings.

Anyone heard of this kind of crash?

Thanks!

Something similar hapened to me couple of times. This kind of thing usually occures when the batteries are weak. Check the battery status before you do soft reset. I think after reset visor requires a little bit more power, so if there isn't enough it simply can't intialize.
