Well, if Palmgear DOES get a shipment tomorrow, anf they are filling them by date orders were received (which is only fair), I wonder where we all stand who have placed an order. Mine was placed on 4/3/01.

Plus, I am curious just how many they ordered...

I ordered most of my stuff through either Handango or the developer directly anyway. Palmgear's slow web server always annoyed me. I only go there for more detailed information ont he springboards. Now I may even find other outlets for that too once this is over with.

Did Palmgear just wait to place the order until they presold sufficient modules to qualify for a quantity discount?

Their server is practically unusable since they went from PHP to CF. (Unix/Linux to NT) But their site does look better! I used them mostly because if I was on a buy, I'd commonly get stuff from several different developers and for some wierd reason I just discovered Handango this week.

Well they now have two extra to ship. I also cancelled my order. I am now the proud owner of an InnoPocket CF which suits my needs (I ordered both at the same time).

Just talked to Palmgear again!

They told me yesterday that they were supposed to get them today... now they are saying any day now...

This is a big pain in the butt.

Nothing against PI but palm gear sucks... they should have choosen another vendor for their US launch.

Exclamation Mamplug shipping issue - an update

This is a quote of an email I sent to Palmgear this morning, and the response I received soon after...

Original post:
--------------
Can you give me SOME idea of when you are getting your order in? I see that ship dates CONTINUE to slip - first the 15th, then 16th, then 25th, then 26th, then 30th. I need to know these things:

1) Have the memplug modules been shipped to YOU yet?
2) How many do you expect to receive in your shipment?
3) Since orders are filled in the order they were received, I need to know if my order WILL be filled from this current shipment, or if I will have to wait ANOTHER MONTH for another shipment to trickle in?

I have contacted PI and they state Palmgear only placed their order a few days ago! That is ridiculous. The item has been backordered for a month now, and you only placed your order a few days ago?!

I am very unsatisfied with Palmgear's service. I can tell you with certainty that this will likely be the last order I place with Palmgear. I expect a prompt reply to my questions and concerns. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
J. Sean McKay, Ph.D.
--------------------

AND NOW THEIR REPLY:
----------------
1. No, the memplugs have not been shipped to us.
2. 500
3. Your order should definately be filled. Our backorder list goes back to the end of March and you are just a couple of days after that, so I am sure it will leave on this next shipment.

The reason we just placed an order is because we had placed one a while back and they did not send us the correct amount that we had ordered, therefore, we had to place a new order. I am very sorry for the delay, but there
is nothing that we can do but wait, because we do not even have one in the store.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please let me know. Thank you....

Regards,
Tiffany Wall
PalmGear.com
-----------------

Sorry for the long post, but here are some things I see in here:

1) They say the memplugs have not been shipped to them yet. Now while Tiffany may have meant they have not received them, she does say they have not been shipped yet. PIDeveloper, could you clarify this issue and give us the exact date and quantity that were shipped to Palgear?

2) She makes excuses, saying they didn't get the number they originally ordered, so they just had to re-order. Well if they didn't get the number they originally ordered, and have been out for almost a month, don't you think they would have ordered them at least three weeks ago? Sounds like backpeddling to me...

Anyway, hope you can clarify some things regarding ship dates/quantities, PIDeveloper...

And Havoc has been told that they were due in any day now. Curiouser and curiouser...

Want to know something else... I told Palmgear about this discussion and the sales rep seemed concerned. He asked for the address to the boards so he could have his manager read them and post a reply...

HAS ANYONE SEEN A POST FROM PALMGEAR?

With the track record of Palmgear, and the seeming confirmation of our opinions of them by their latest fiascoes, do you think you WOULD see a post from them here? I doubt it.

Let's just say Palmgear is going to have some damage control to do regarding their reputation when this is all over with. I shudder to think what things will continue to be like as springboard modules become more and more prevalent. I wonder if orders of other springboard modules are having a similarly bad track record.

Well, as far as other modules go, if you want to buy a Thinmodem f'rinstance, where will you go? I can drive 1 mile down the road and buy from 5 different stores and they're all $120. I can find them on several different websites for $120. They're everywhere. All else being equal I'll go to the store or website that I've dealt with and been satisfied with.
I can deal with distribution problems, supply problems and just about anything else but in this instance it's just a case of poor communication between the supplier (PalmGear) and the customer (that's us guys). Maybe they feel they're the only game in town so customers don't need to be treated well.
I can't say as I fault PI here because a company with only one product will fill any order it receives. Work 28 hours a day to make more etc.

Angry PI has to take some of the blame now.

OK. PI has now aroused my ire as well, along with Palmgear. After seeing your post Havoc, I check my home email, and surprise, surprise, no email notification from Palmgear. So I call them with my order number. They say, "Yes, we did receive some Memplug's in, but we received Memplug's already bundled with memory. Since you only ordered the Memplug module, we are expecting to receive those by 4/30."

Are you kidding me? How poor a customer-service option is this, to only fill part of the order you received, and only the part of the order which garners YOU (that being PI) more cash?! I think that is really showing that PI is a little less concerned about the consumer (at least the ones who don't want to pay their high prices for memory), than we were giving them credit for. And that really angers me to no end.

Before, my ire was directed solely at Palmgear for being consumer unfriendly. Now it is spread equally between Palmgear and PI for this, as well as (IMHO) PI's shortsightedness for only shipping partial distribution orders.

Hope all you do is continue to improve the software for the Memplug, PI, because I won't be buying anything else from you if this is how you choose to do business.

Sincerely frustrated at the treatment of consumers,

I was unaware the PI was shipping any with memory. From the descriptions I had seen, it seemed that PalmGear was just taping a module on to the box.

I would ask PIDeveloper to confirm or deny this. I really would like to know who the "culprit" is. I've got one without memory on order, but if I don't make it into the April 30th shipment (or somewhere very close by), I'll cancel my order and just deal with a flash module until someone comes out with a decent product that's actually available.

PI and PalmGear, this is not no slowly becoming a public relations nightmare for you both, so I'd work together to get this straightened out.

Hi all,

Don't get me wrong.
As I am responsible for software development, I may not know all the fact of the story.

I don't want to shift the responsibility to anyone.
Just quote some fact I know.

1. We PI has sent 500 units to them on Apr24 by air..(It should arrived to US before Apr26 US time ..)

2. I don't sure how many PalmGear originally order, but we have learnt the back-order once it being post in PalmGear, and we have try our best to communicate and ask PalmGear to place the order... PI really care about our customers.

But I heard that we just received the PO a few days before our shipping date..

Btw, I think PI will get better communication with PalmGear to avoid similar problem in future. We are sorry for any delay.
