I was wondering if anyone had tried to remove the outside casing from the visor? I am going to purchase deluxe tomorrow and I am still trying to decide on color. I like the blue.....but I really don't like the 'ice' back and cradle. I also saw a post mentioning that most of the modules are black....and I guess I like to match.

BUT......I was thinking...if the case was easy to remove, I might paint it solid purple. Why in the hell doesn't Handspring offer purple...the greatest color ever....invented or discovered? Whatever.

Anyone have any luck getting the case off, or painting one? I was thinking the 'ice' would be best to paint since it was the lightest color. Thanks for your input......and I will be official with you all tomorrow!

There was an earlier thread about disassembling the Visor. As I recall it can be done without too much difficulty however keep this in mind: it WILL void your warranty for certain. If this is something you're willing to risk, best of luck - I myself wouldn't recommend it.

FWIW, as an Ice owner, it's really not that bad. Kinda cool if you asked me. But then, as they say... to each their own!

I think you watched too much Barney as a kid. How can you say purple is the best color ever invented?

No it isn't a Barney addiction.......it's my wife...she loves purple...and I thought about it.....there really isn't another color that I like too much.....I guess my enthusiam for it might have been a little overdone....

I think the advice about voiding my warrenty is the big issue. I have heard of a few people having minor problems and having to get a replacement. I wouldn't want to screw that up. Thanks for all you advice, even if you all are purple haters....=)

a friend of mine carves wood, and he said its very durable and a deep purple color. Brings back memories of 'smoke on the water' LOL

Wasn't Purple discovered? From what I remember it was the color of Royalty becuase it was very expensive to manufacture in the old days. Didn't they get the dye from oyesters or something like that?

Yes, Royal Purple originally came from the murex shellfish. Hideously expensive.
I understand that when you manufacture the dye it smells like a dead flatulent whale, but the color is wondeful.

My favorite hue is reddish-purple.

LOVE that purple... Does anyone actually have one of those "wood overlays"? How does it work/look with the bumpy sides of the Visor???

Has anyone done any vacu-forming of plastics? I have a friend that is an industrial designer and said that it shouldn't be too hard to come up with some molds for the Handspring case. I'll do some checking...

My brother does a lot of working in wood and for Christmas he gave me a purple heart wood bowl he had made. But he warned me that it would lose its purple color over time and turn into plain-old-brown. I know its hearsay (or maybe even heresy!), but I thought you all should be warned.
