Lightbulb

I wanted to start this thread to put together some answers and common experiences with the MiniJam / MusicMatch / MiniLoader products.

Unfortunately I had to use this because my original MiniJam had a button that didn't work ("dot" button closest to the headphone jack).

Question MiniJam Quirks

A couple of things about my MiniJam. I'm not sure if it is "operator error" or a bug in the player but my Visor will turn on by itself in a few minutes after I shut everything down (hold the "dot" button 'till it beeps). I must also press the "play" button three times to get the music going. The first press starts the time counter, the second press stops everthing and the third press everything seems to operate normaly.

I must tap play/pause 3 times before I can hear music.

Post Quirks and Questions

Some quirks:

1) I also must tap the play 3 times to start it.
2) There is no way to turn the minijam on without powering up the visor.
3) The playback "hiccups" when you press forward/reverse during playback. That is, audio stops for ~200ms, returns for ~500ms, and then goes to the next song.

Comments, feature requests, and complaints:

1) I want to be able to power on the minijam and start playback without powering on my visor. i.e. while it's still in my pocket. (What's the round button by the headphone jack for, if not that?) Even better, have a combination of buttons turn it on (don't want it turning on accidentially in my pocket).
2) I want it to "remember" where it left off playing when it was stopped. For books-on-tape in mp3 format, this is essential. You don't want to start over at the beginning.
3) I want to use it under linux. Where the hell is the developer's kit anyway? I'm gonna return the thing pretty soon if I can't figure a way to get new songs on it.
4) The MJLoader software crashes under win95 (and also never connects to the visor). The software has no stated OS version dependence. But then, what doesn't crash under windoze?

Has anyone tried one of the MMC read/write devices with the minijam (SanDisk SDDR-12, etc)? Do they work well? What's the transfer rate? Anyone know if any of the MMC read/write devices have drivers under linux?

I find that before a certain time-out (longer than the visor auto shut-off), the buttons will all work even if the visor is off, and even if I turned off the minijam. However, after a certain amount of time has passed (the minijam 'time-out'?), the buttons no longer do anything, even if I turn the visor back on. I have to turn the visor on AND manually select the minijam application for the buttons to work again.

Is this how EVERYONE's minijam works, or is mine defective?
(actually I'm exchanging it for a seperate problem with the headphone connector, but if this is how it is SUPPOSED to work maybe I'll just return it and get a soundsgood instead.

Remove MiniJam from Visor when changing batteries. I had to reset my Visor when I changed batteries while MiniJam is attached.
