I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!

PalmGear says my memplug has shipped. YEAH!

Of course, it also says it was shipped 5/29/01, which may be in a parallel universe, since the email date was 5/25/01 on this planet.

I'll be stylin' now, Prism-SplashPhoto-Mapopolis-Memplug.

I don't know how many (if any) are on Yahoo! groups Memplug group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/memplug/message/151 but in a recent message there:

From: Chloe Li <chloe@p...>
Date: Thu May 24, 2001 8:21 pm
Subject: RE: [memplug] WHY Memplug always blackorder?

PIT shipped 200pc Memplug to palmgear last week and they picked up the
shippment two day ago.
Also, PIT will ship another 300pc Memplug to palm gear by next week. I think
it will clean up all back orders.

Has anyone gotten good results with TealMovie? Audio files play fine, but movies with audio don't seem to work great. It's still a beta, but I'm wondering how much of it has to do with speed. I made a 10 fps color movie at 1800 bytes/frame with 2:1 audio compression and it had all sorts of artifacts while playing. Hopefully it is just the software, I don't want to sacrifice too much more on quality or fps.

The only thing I don't like about Tealmovie is that I have to convert all my mpeg's to avi's before i can convert them to tealmovies.... Kind of a pain in the arse....

Is amazon buying from Palmgear?!?!?!

I kwno we are talking about Palmgear in this thread, but I thought this is related enough, and I don't want to bring in a new thread. I just got this e-mail, finally after my request abotu the aviabilty of the Memplug at amazon.

quote:
Dear Michael,

Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.com with your question. I have
researched the "Portable Innovation Technology PIT MemPlug SmartMedia
Adaptor Memory Card Springboard" and can assure you we have placed orders
for this item from our suppliers.

Many of the items we list on our site are ordered directly from the
manufacturers. However, we utilize a variety of suppliers for the items
we list. I am not authorized to state where we have ordered our inventory
from.

The information on our site is the most complete information we have from
our supplier as to what design we will be receiving. We update our
website on a regular basis so I suggest you keep checking back to see when
this item becomes available.

I hope you find this information helpful. Thank you for choosing
Amazon.com and have a great day.

Now, my questions are. We have PIT on our boards, and they've only sold stuff to Palmgear in the US. and Widget in the UK. So does this mean, that Amazon is buying from Palmgear?!?! OH THE HORROR!!!! Now I'm worried about ordering form amazon.. What I'm saying.. What other people have bought from PIT? IT appears that no others.. so a supplier than has to be Palmgear. Get my logic?

Well, I guess that WOULD be appropriate, seeing as how I am a psychologist and all.....

Not at all. It's a win-win for PI and consumers. If you already have a digicam/MP3 player with CF cards, or if you have CF cards lying around for whatever reason (which are typically easier to pick up in retail as "digital film"), you'd only have to buy the module. PI still gets your money, so everybody's happy.

Question new orders?

Quick question: will the new shipments to Palmgear be just enough to fill backorders, or will there be enough to ship to new customers also? I'm leaving to go out of town in 2 weeks; what's the best way for me to get one before I go? Any ideas?

You can order from widget. It'll cost you extra because of exchange rates, but I got mine in 7 days flat! They're in the UK and I'm in the USA. $72 vs. $56

Joy!

Memplug finally arrived! I had no idea it was backordered this long, since the packaging was from PilotGear HQ..

Anyway, the plastic casing says 1.0, the board inside says 2.0, and both the top and back of the memplug are flat. The module sticks up less than 1mm, about as close to flush as makes no difference to me. (looks like if the springboard pins were just pushed down flush to the board, it'd be perfectly flat, may try that later.) Any pictures of the old-style to see if this is it and I'm misunderstanding the old/new design?

When you stick the SmartMedia card in does it stick out?

It sticks out a little, but they've sloped the top of the module to meet the top of the card. See for yourself, though the scanner's a little blurry. <edit> just checked, it came with the 1.3 update pre-installed. </edit>

Here's my attempt at a picture. . . Again I feel that the adapter is beveled up to be flush with the SMC, but is not flush with the visor. A design I actually prefer to sticking out 2 mm. Although ideal would be totally flush all around! I'll take what I can get.

p.s. This is my first picture attachment, I hope it works.

I'm sorry if you saw this question on another thread.

Do you lucky guys who already have your memplugs have a plan for how to do a 'full' backup of HS 8mb plus memplug smc? I mean, most likely the memplug will not be kept seperate from visor like my HS backup mod. I plan to place many docs and pics on the memplug.

If we lose the visor and memplug, is there no recourse?
