I had the same problem with the beta. I remember
I got instructions from somewhere that help me to
get it to recognize the usb driver.

This may not be exactly correct:

1: go to device manager in the control panel
2: hit the hotsync button on the cradle
3: the handspring device should show up.
4: open properties and select update driver
5: find the handspring driver

This is all from memory.

Got a new Dell 2100 with Win Xp and my little visor and all its software work just fine. The new computer came with all the usual stuff pre-loaded from Dell. I installed my Palm DeskTop stuff and haven't had any problems. Does any of this help?

Thumbs down Palm Desktop ver 4.0.1

check out visorvillage.com - they posted an article on 10/29 re incompatability between WINXP and Ver 4.0.1. Sorry it took three replies to get this to you!

Talking

no problems here for some time now.. in fact XP's default sound scheme appears to add cool 'chime' melodies to the pop up and close of the Hotsync window

XP has been perfect.. just waiting for my scanner drivers.. nofault of MS. Just need to get me some dirt cheap big blocks of SD RAM and then I'm cookin with gas.

Nugnu22, what version of the desktop did you load. The newest one from Handsprings web site or the one that came with your unit? What else is loaded on your system as far as other programs? I installed the desktop software after I had installed Easy CD Creator and Norton Antivirus. That was all that was on my system then. Just wondering if one of them is causing me problems. I am tempted to do a clean install again and try and install palm desktop first and see if that makes any difference. This is driving me crazy that it is working for some people and not for others. Something is amiss. By the way what Visor are you using? I am using a Deluxe.

I can't say I told you so since I've never talked to you before. Why in the world would you install a brand new OS? Microsoft has a track record of not having a largely bug-free OS until around 3-4 months after release (or longer). Plus with all the changes made to XP, it's likely that I'll never switch. I'd rather get Win2K.

Exclamation

Try this if you haven't:

  • Uninstall the desktop software
  • Remove any entries in the registry reffering to the HotSync software. (BE CAREFUL IN THE REGISTRY! You may want to back it up.)
  • Delete the Handspring and Palm folder in the Programs Files folder.
  • Reinstall with the latest relase from Handspring's website

Disclaimer: I take no responsibility if your computer gets messed up. If you follow my instructions, you do so at your own risk.

BTW, is this a pure upgrade to XP or is it a clean install?

Mine was a clean install. I have now installed and uninstalled the newest version twice with no luck and have tried the version which came with my unit, also with no luck. I havent removed any entries from the registry in between installations but did remove the folders from the harddrive. I may try a new clean install of XP next and install the palm desktop first and see if that works, if not then going back to 2000.
