Does anyone know if a USB to serial converter will work on my USB cradle? We use NT 4.0 at work which doesn't support USB

DOES a USB to serial convertor actually exist? I've heard people mention it, but I really don't think one does. I think most of you people are getting this confused with a serial to USB convertor.
I wouldn't think that most USB equipment would work proper with such a convertor. I know there are some convertors like for USB mice that turn the USB into PS/2 but they make these model specific. I don't think there is a generic USB to serial convertor.
Can anyone proove me wrong? Perhaps post a link to one on an e-retailer's site?

USB to serial converters exist but are very expensive. I used altavista to search for 'usb to serial' and there are a bunch of them out there but none of them are under $50. You might as well buy the serial cradle.
