I just bought palm m100's for my brother and sister for Christmas, I have a Visor deluxe myself. My question is if it is possible to sync both m100's off of the same cradle (serial unfortunatly)? If it is possible I would buy one usb adapter. Anyway if it is how does one do ?

If you are wondering why I bought the m100 and not the plain visor....well its because they are both young and are relativly new to computers, but I want them to start getting organized. I do not think they will be using springboards as I do and the color faceplates make it easy to dicifer who's is who's. I do love my VDX though, and if I had the money I would buy two for them.

Anyway if you can help me I would appreciate it much. Thanks in advance.

We forgive you for buying that other brand. :-)

If the m100 are like other palm devices, I don't see why they wouldn't be, each device will have its own name and there shouldn't be any problem syncing all 3 devices when needed.

What about the current deal where the 2mb Visor with a USB cradle is selling for 149.00? Isn't that the same price as that other device?

Either way, as Felipe said, as long as the M100's are setup with different user names, they should all be able to sync from the same cradle.

Even at the same price the M100 might be better for younger folks. It's smaller and is more robust with a plastic screen.

I have a VDx and an m100 syncing to one computer. It works just fine, but you'll have to enable Local Serial on your HotSync Manager.

The 'problem' arises when you realize that the m100 has the Notepad application, and that the Notepad application syncs to the Palm Desktop. If you intend to sync the Notepad app to the desktop, this is what you want to do:

1. Make sure you have everything backed up on your Visor!!!

2. Install the m100 Palm Desktop over your current Palm Desktop program.

3. Run the Visor installation CD. There should be an option which asks if you want custom installation. Choose custom installation.

4. In Custom installation mode, choose to install just the HotSync Manager.

5. Remember to also install the HotSync manager properties of Local Serial and Local USB.

That should be it...it worked for me, and my m100 Notepad app syncs to my Desktop as well!

Hope this helps,
krypton

IMHO, these are the only reasons to buy an m100 over a SOLO.

Again, MHO.

First off thanks for the help.

What about the current deal where the 2mb Visor with a USB cradle is selling for 149.00? Isn't that the same price as that other device?

My answer is two reasons, they are menial yet make the difference.
1) color faceplates so they can tell the difference
2) While I like the visor form I believe the m100 form appeals to younger folks and it just so happens that my bro and sis are younger.

Vtech Phusion

For those of you looking to get the younger ones a Palm type device you might want to look into the Vtech Phusion. I picked up my 7yr. old one at Walmart ($119.00) & he loves it. The teacher at school was quite impressed as well!
