I haven't had a reason to yet. Which is a good thing (thinks about all the radios over his lifetime taken apart that never worked again).

I took the liberty to add the missing option (between 1 and 5 times...

Which is my answer... twice, first time just for fun/curiosity second time to replace the broken screen.

Well, kind a couple of those. I took it apart once or twice to see the insides and to ponder some mods. But once the solo's screen bit it after a completely surprising 10 foot fall/bouce/kick/skid/fall/bounce off the platform and onto the train tracks, i took it apart a bunch more times. Ultimately, I just had to find out if simply wiring in a headphone speaker directly to the piezo would get me clearer sound. Id did, for a while, but then stopped working. because the screen was gone, I never found out why.

I almost did it once, to get the stylus out. See, I took out the screwdriver head and tried to put the stylus body and pen part back in. Needless to say, it got stuck. I unscrewed about half the screws and was just about to take it apart when I had the idea to stick another stylus into the hole. It 'caught' the stuck stylus and I pulled it out. Fixed.

Once to stick a business card inside to fix a loose screen, once after I dropped it and it stopped synching via USB (seems a component got knocked off the motherboard - I had it repaired locally and it works fine)

Maybe another time.

1 time so far.

Due to the below brilliant move =>

After leaving my vdx on the roof of the car throughout a 2hour thunderstorm, I: (did not turn it on)

1) removed if from the deluxe leather case.

2) removed my backup module (which I use instead of h-syncing)

3) poured the water out of the slot

4) removed my screen protector

5) removed the batteries

6) inserted fresh batteries

then i duct taped it to the dash in front of an airvent for a drive of an hour and a half. I tried to turn it on (no go). Took it apart still leaving the batteries in place just in case i had a chance for saving my precious memory. Put it back together changed the batteries again. Hit reset for about the third time and it came back to life (MEMORY INTACT!!!!!!!!!!1) My backup was okay as well. Thank God for small miracles.

Oh and i baked the deluxe case for about 30 minutes on warm in the oven wrapped in aluminum foil. It's a little more snug but still looks great.

If It gets Wet

If you Visor takes on water and it isn't just surface water but actually gets inside, leaving the batteries in is really bad. Putting in fresh ones is even worse because you just give that much more voltage to drive corrosion that will kill it.

Best to get the batteries out immediately and as soon as possible open it up to rinse it out with fresh water if it got doused with anything that would class as an electrolyte - salt water, um, used toilet water, etc.

Dry it as much as possible with paper towels by dabbing and if you have a can of Dust-Off or similar, blow it off but from a little distance. You don't want to force water into the screen edges, etc. but just get any excess off.

Then let it air dry overnight before reassembling and reinstalling batteries.

But the biggest point is to get the battery power out of there. It just drives the destruction when there is moisture in there to conduct. Things like salt water don't completely dry out and provide the perfect medium for corrosion. It may work initially but won't for long.

I only took apart my Visor once: and that was to dye my ice case purple. (In the tradition of Visor Pink!)

The trick was making sure everything was lined up before screwing it back together. But I did make a point of checking out all the parts while it was disassembled to see how everything worked.

Hmm, how many times....

Gosh -

I would guess more than 10 times. I've dyed the case 2 or 3 times, painted the case, tried fixing a bad IR port by reseting the red plastic cover, etc.

I guess thats why I'm looking to get a replacement cover for my VDX. The posts that the screws are supposed to go into cracked and broke off. My visor is currently being held together by 2" clear packing tape.

However, it works fine.
