The visorphone (with Voicestream) seems to be the best deal these days, by far. I just signed up for Voicestream's 3000 anytime minutes for $49, and plan to use A LOT of those minutes.
I have searched the reviews of the visorphone from all over. I have found this:
1. The phone and its functions work excellent.
2. The reception/sound quality appears to be the same as a mid-range cell phone.
3. Some people have reported echo problems with certain visorphone cases. Others have not reported any problems.
4. Many say the sound quality sounds hollow. Others have purchased other headsets and say the quality is just fine.
5. Although the phone is free (with activation) now, it looks like you need to invest in a good visorphone case. The two best cases are made by E&B and by Vaja. I own a Prism and have been pricing cases for it. E&B's Prosm case is about $55 and includes a holder for an earbud headset; Vaja's Prism case even more pricey at about $75. The prices for non-Prism units are somewhat cheaper.
6. Many people are waiting for a phone case you can plug the visorphone into when you don't want it in your visor, but you still want to send/receive calls. That case should be out soon. I'm looking to buy a used Voicestream phone and just swap the sim card from the visorphone into the used phone when I don't want the visorphone in my prism.
7. Handspring is now claiming that due to heavy demand, the Visorphone is not shipping for a couple of weeks. Bummer. I'm still waiting for mine.
All in all, I looked into the visorphone closely, since I will be committed to Voicestream for a year. I've concluded it is a fantastic deal.
