Recommended Stylus that fits in the silo?

Hi,

Just wondering which stylus people recommend that fits in the silo of a Platinum. Also, if you have links to the site that would be handy.

Thanks,

mc

Well, I searched long and hard for one myself, but I wanted one with a pen in it too. It was between the E&B iPoint, Pentopia Chameleon for Visor, and City Stylus. I went with the City Stylus (out of HK) because I liked it's stock-stylus-design. However, I was unsatisfied with the tip. It was better than the stock stylus, but was made of a plastic that seemed "tacky" or slightly "sticky". Therefore it didn't glide smoothly over the screen (like my Pentopia 2+1 tip). I resorted to trickery such as spray silicon and actually buffing the thing. However, this was only a temporary solution and never really satisfying. The tip eventually got damaged. I have a Pentopia Chameleon arriving tomorrow. Hopefully since it is Pentopia it will have the same quality stylus tip as the 2+1.

I have two recomendations. The PDA Penache and the Pentopia Chameleon.

First, If you use a case that covers the side of the Palt. You will need a stylus that sticks out a little (PDA Pinache). Good, heavy, stylus with a great tip.

Second, If you are looking for that Swiss Army knife stylus then the Chameleon is for you. I prefer the spring loaded tip for a better feel. I only wish it was a little heavier.

Good Luck

Peace, Love, War Visor

I would recommend the PDA Pinache stylus. The weight is very nice and the orange tip (although may look tacky) helps you very much in seeing where you are about to tap. After using the Pinache stylus I would have serious personality defects if I were to switch back to stock stylus.

I also use a PDA Panache with my Visor Platinum and I like it. It sticks out about 3mm. You'll Get it from www.palmgear.com or www.pdapanache.com for $14.95. There is a chrome and a black version. The black version is a bit hard to pull out, so I prefer the chrome one.

I got my Pentopia Chameleon Visor today, as a replacement for my damaged City Stylus (my fault ), which was a replacement for the stock stylus. I wish I had ordered this one first! All the pictures I had seen of the Chameleon were at an angle such that it did not look like it had the "fish-tail" top (like the stock stylus) that allowed you to easily pull it out of the silo. I was under the assumption it was just straight. Well, though it is slightly a different design than the stock stylus/City Stylus, the top of it does stick out the side and it is very easily pulled out. And the stylus tip! Wow! Smooth as butter, just like my Pentopia 2+1! Woo-hoo! And add to that, it has a black ink pen and METAL (though the City Stylus had this too) reset pin. It is lighter than the stock stylus, and SLIGHTLY lighter than the City Stylus, but I am sure I'll figure out a filler for it to make it a little heavier. I am sure that the PDA Panache and the iPoint Visor w/ Pen are heavier given they are completely metal. However, I imagine they are a little more difficult to remove from the stylus given their head designs, and I doubt ANY other stylus tip can compare to the Pentopia tips.

I'd go with the Pentopia Chameleon. About the same price as the Panache, a little lighter, but with a built-in ink pen, and likely easier to remove from silo given it's head design. Just don't get the City Stylus.

Good luck.

Thanks! I'm gonna go order one right now. Though it's more expensive than the Panache, I think built in pen makes it worth the extra dough. The only unfortunate thing is the weight--I also prefer a heavier stylus.

Thanks to you (and others who posted their comments!) for your help!

I'll check into that stylus. Please let us know if you do end up filling it with some sort of material. I would like to know how you'll do it.

Yeah, I just checked by removing the pen section, and can see there is a TEENY space between the actual pen tube and the casing. I'm trying to think how I could fill it. I would love to fill it with some kind of metal, though in doing that, once the metal cooled, the pen tube would be "welded" to it. Maybe some kind of spray foam that I could squirt down in there with the pen tube still in it. That would allow the space to fill up hopefully adding a little weight, while leaving the space for removal/insertion of the pen tube. It may or may not work. I will likely be researching my options before I try anything - don't want to screw around and mess ths stylus up too...

Any ideas folks?

BTW, the weight really isn't that bad of an issue to be honest. If I can't find a good solution, I won't really be that disappointed. Don't want people to think it is so light it's unuseable...

Does anyone know if CompUSA carries stylii? I would be interested in one as long as it fit in the silo, but I would still like to see it before I bought it.
