Question

Originally, I was waiting for the Thinmodem plus module but I just saw the Xircom Springport Modem for a very good deal after rebate. www.ecost.com is selling it for $118.88 with $30.00 rebate, final price $88.88. I am temped to buy this 'cause I've grown impatient waiting for the Thinmodem+. Its been more than a month late, since it was promised mid-january. $149.99 vs. $88.88.

Anyone have any thoughts or comments about this modem other than its size and weight?

Cnncerning the ThinModem+, that was never a data announced by the company in a press release or anything, so yo ucan't really hold that against them.

The ThinModem+ is now ready to ship and will begin doing so on March 1st.

Works fine by me. I've used it in conjunction with Proximail and Proxiweb - works great. I spent considerably more on mine...$88 is a STEAL.

hmm. there was a intresting thing on /. recently about rebates. It turns out that they are really profitable for the company, if there like <$30 becasue nobody ever turns them in, but they sitll buy them, thinking that it is cheaper. I've had soem trouble redeeming rebates too. (namely netgear.. damn them!) so.. I would be catious

still, THAT IS A STEAL! that prics is awesome.. seriously.. Awesome!

I want it.!!!!!

My rebate never came....

I would be very very careful with Xircom rebates. I sent mine in over 4 months ago and nothing!
Just a warning!!!!!

My modem turned out costing $150 instead of $99 with the $50 rebate.. I still love the modem!
Watch them batteries though...

Unhappy

I will second the last post. I sent in my $50.00 CompUSA rebate in October and have received nothing. I have called twice and was told "it is in the mail" both times. The rebate "smoke and mirror" seems to be the standard now a days. The Springport 56k works well for my application, but I don't think I would have knowingly paid $150 for it. Other than making another phone call, my only recourse is to stop going to CompUSA and bypassing future Xircom products.

Angry

Ditto for me. I purchased a SpringPort right after they came out, using the $50 rebate offer. So far, no check.

Post keep checking those mailboxes...

I also sent the rebate in October, but I received my check a few days ago.

The odd thing is that the check is dated January 19.
