Question

I heard rumor that Visor edge color version is coming out in September this year, anyone heard anything or can confirm this? I got a prism and is in general happy with it but is specially frustrated with the visibility of the screen in daylight outdoors. Maybe the Sony color clie is better. Any thoughts?

I have seen nothing to indicate it's more than wishful thinking.

Jeez, weren't you at the symposium? They gave away 50,000 new color Edges free! I LOVE HS!!!
(Nah, jk, unf. No "symposium." No free color Edges. Yet, anyway.)

Color screens, not color shells...

Handspring said in an interview posted on this site that they won't release a version of the Edge with a color screen until they get it right--which I take to mean with viable contrast, unlike the m505.

Hmmmm...
Seriously (for once), I was just on VisorVillage and some guy went on and on about a Color Visor (even claiming it was in fact the Razor) coming in Sept.
I raced right over here, hoping there was some updated info.
Hmmmm...

I'm quite sure there will be colour Edge by end of this year or maybe beginning 2002... They already said they won't come out with a colour Edge until the technology allows for a Prism screen in a Edge form factor... Note the Prism screen, not a m505 screen...

Arrow My Prediction

I predict that they will have a New Color Unit by mid to late summer. To answer Palm's M505 and Sony's Clie N3XX or whatever its called.

Call me vain, but I just don't think I could handle owning something called the "Visor Razor" (say that out loud to understand why).

That said, I admit to being a romantic fool waiting for the Prism screen in an Edge form factor. Meanwhile, the Prism is looking less and less chunky every day... especially with rumored price drops coming soon.

Cool exempe

I heard all about this new color edge today from an inside tech guy I talked too! Pretty cool:

Apparently, it won't have the Prism screen, it will have a reflective display. Handspring is RUSHING to get it out with the recent budget outlook, and so the early ones may NOT have an adjustible color screen. But according to the guy, it should prove satisfactory for even the most avid Prism user! The current name for it is the EDGE CS (edge color screen) but that will most likely change. The Edge may even become its own lineup. With it being called the "Edge Prism" or something. If so, us Visor users will be left out!

It will NOT be running OS 4.0 (a modified version of 3.5) It And it will only be slightly larger than the current Edge model!!! (Come on Handspring! Couldn't you do more?) It will have the same connector as the Edge, but will come in one more color: midnight black metallic OR cobalt blue. (He promises that it will not peel) Either one would look cool in my opinion! It may also lose that ungainly plastic bumper in place of a higher quality frame, but don't count on it.

Scheduled cost is around $479.00 , and it is due out in mid-August in EXTREMELY limited amounts. (The guy said about half of the original M505 shipments )

---

I personally would take the M505.

Wow! Nobody posted to this thread today, of all days?
I'm thinking the ans. is now: A lot sooner than we'd thought!

I would take this with a grain of salt. It could be real, but based on the feature set as well as the bblue's history of chain pulling, I am waiting for some kind of corroboration. It would be cool if it is real.

Cool It's Real!

It's real. The guy will be emailing pictures soon!

I'll post em here as long as HS doesn't threaten to chop off my head.

I'd prove it to you and give you more info about him, except his job would be at stake. It took enough persuasive questioning to get the info I got! I don't work for HS! Love the freedom!

Brad,

Could you fit that graphics controller chip and the neccessary circuitry into the Edge form factor? Could you do 320x320 wihtout it? My hunch is that an August color edge would be 160x160x16-bit color.

My friend told me yesterday that his mom's company has ordered color Visor Edges from handspring. As in already done, just waiting on them to be produced. He said something about August as well. Like all rumors, I take this with a full pound of salt (what good is a grain anyway?)

Just thought I'd fuel the flames

Paste the URL, then put a "?" at the end of it (w/out quotes)
