Question

My wife got a Visor Platinum for Christmas...WOW what a great little device...I'm gonna have to get me one of these
(if I can wait till March, I'll get one for my B-day)

Anyway, here's the problem we're having, and I hope someone can help.

Most of the software we have downloaded...unzips fine...HotSyncs fine...I can look in my HotSync log and it shows it installed...If I bring up the delete menu it shows the software on the Visor, But......there are no shortcuts on the main menu to use the software. I would say this has happened to about 60% of the software we've downloaded.

I don't know if we're doing something wrong or if it's just a problem with the software we've dowloaded. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

BTW; I spend most of my time on KnifeForums, BadeForums and The Firing Line. My wife is gonna freak when she learns I've found a new forum to spend time on.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe

I'm taking a wild guess that you've downloaded DBs (Databases) that need applications to open them. That is just my guess. What did you download? Say so and you'll get your answer quicker than you can imagine.

If these are not DBs or documents, check the drop down menu in the upper-rightmost corner of your Visor's screen. Switch to the 'Unfiled' category and you might find what you're looking for there. Another way to switch between categories is to continuously tap on the house icon (near graffiti area) until you see the category that you would like to view.

Good luck!

Continuously tapping the house icon cycles through all categories *except* unfiled.

Also, if you don't find the apps in the All or Unfiled categories, mrknowitall's suggestion that these are DB's that require an application to open them is almost certainly correct. If you post the names of the db's you're trying to install, I'm sure someone here can tell you what you need to open them.

To satisfy yourself that these db's did in fact install, tap the 'Menu' silkscreen button then select 'Info'. The stuff you're looking for should appear in the list that comes up.

Thanks for the response guys,
I went back and looked, and the stuff that I can't seem to use had "pdb" file extension. The stuff that works has a "prc" and some have both.
I'm guessing that the pdb's are data bases. Is there some application I can get to open them? Most of them are medical information, medicines and stuff (she's a nurse).

Is there a special trick to veiwing data bases?
Thanks again and I'll be shopping for my Visor soon

A good idea that you list these file names and you'll get your answer most quickly that way. I suppose an internet search engine on the filename could produce helpful use. Though not guaranteed, if you search the filename on PalmGear.com you're likely to find the app that will open the PDB. There are alot of medical related DBs out there.

If these DBs are simply documents, visit memoware.com and search as you should at palmgear.com. Best yet, if you remember where you downloaded the databases, then go directly back to the source.
