Should I get a prism?

I currently have a visor deluxe. I'm thinking of upgrading it. thinking of getting a colour screen device.

I hope prism owners can share the pros and cons of it with me.

Is it advisable to get one since Handspring has stopped the Springboard idea?

I wouldn't want a treo because I don't like the little keyboard.

thanks

Yes.

Yes. Get one. They are cheap, pretty and you can still get springboards from ebay, yahoo auctions, etc if you can't get the from the manufacturers.

I just upgraded myself: it is prettier, faster, and just all around cooler.

Plus you can get the here:
http://www.consumerdepot.com/products.asp?id=1008NAR
for $149.

Put this into consideration.

Hey,

At www.consumerdepot.com you will get a refurbished prism and there is only a 14 day warranty on it. It is repackaged by consumer depot. So I would think that the handspring warranty is void. You can contact handspring about it though.

Don't get me wrong I love my prism. That is only if I didn't have a handspring before. I have three modules. The eyemodule2, 8mb flash module and the Innopak/2V. The reason that I bought the prism is because I wanted to be able to take small color pictures & color movies with my eyemodule 2. But then the coolness of color came into affect. It is a whole lot better with color. Everything is better trust me. Liberty a gameboy emulator for palm can be colorized so it reminds me of super gameboy and picking out the colors for the game. There are alos thousands of colorized apps for the palm. I find that the color version does not take up so much more space then grayscale apps. Most apps have the color information embedded in the program in order for it to be compatible with most palms.

Now you have to think of this. Do you have any modules? Do you like thin palms? Do you like heavy palm? The only reason why I ask you this is because the prism is a brick :-). It is heavy and unproportioned. The reason why it is so thick is because of the springboard slot. If you can live with it then go for the prism. If you want to spend more money go for a sony or a palm but in color. Color makes all the difference :-).

Yes!!!!! I agree with all the other comments so far. I recently upgraded from a Platinum. I don't think you can go wrong for the money. I like some of the newer color units from Sony and Palm but I just can't justify the expense. The Prism is a brick--but I really like that brick. It feels good and solid in you hand. The screen is bright and easy to read. An we all know Handspring is a dependable device. If you are using your visor for organizational reasons, games, ebooks then the prism will more than serve your needs.

If you're serious about getting a Prism, and I loved mine, email me and we can talk about buying mine. It is in mint condition, with out a scratch or paint rubout. I have with it an Eyemodule 2, backup SB, Memplug SM with two SM cards and USB reader, Stowaway and several cases, two of which carry the Prism and Stowaway both.

Forgot to say I also have a travel charger.

Talking Prism is great

My Prism was my first handheld and will be my only handheld until a new type of Visor will come about, hopefully one that has a springboard or some other palm that can work with springboards (Im not going to throw my springboards away for a new palm).

The Prism is great, powerful, nice looking. I love it. You can do just about anything with your Prism that any other palm can do (yes including the Sony clies). I have an mp3 player, eyemodule 2, VisorPhone and Memplug MS. Those 4 modules are superb. I use everyone of them a lot of times.

Yes it is heavy and bulky but it has a nice feel to it. It fits in your hand very nicely and feels real sturdy like it cant break. If your looking for a good color palm then this is it. If you want something a lot more powerful and better looking, then get a clie. Just dont forget, with the help of springboards, your visor can be like a clie.

Plus Prisms are real cheap these days.

Cya lata.

Jonathan

P.S. Whatever you do, dont go for the Treo 90 over the Prism, just dont If you look at my other posts you can see why I say this

prism here I come!

hi! thanks for the feedback. I was having second thoughts because of the springboard modules which are not in use by handspring anymore (WHYYYYYYYYY?????)!!

But I guess there are some advantages too since SBs are much much cheaper now.

How long does the batteries last anyway? should I sell off my deluxe? I see a lot of posts of owners who upgraded to newer visors and kept their old one as backups.

Exclamation Re: prism here I come!

Reality check:

If you want something that can actually fit into jean pockets / handbag, you can take a look at the Sonys, if you don't mind Memory Bubblegum Sticks Color and high-res is a real bonus, and at least with the Memsticks you are rest assured that you'll be able to use with another Sony device at some point in the future or something, because Memsticks are here to stay

Or Treo 90, if you don't mind the keyboard designed for hobbits in mind

I don't know about you, but as an average user, I would get a separate digital camera if I want pictures, so I'm not getting a module just for that And I'd fit an MP3 player in my car too, not in my pocket That's my preference About the only thing I want that has anything to do with my Visor is to expand the memory, and adding new software

SBs SpringBoards has ceased to exist in our region Asia, GrandTech Malaysia/Singapore is not supplying them anymore, no matter how you beg for it My Visor Pro has instantly become obsolete with almost no other form of expansion because of that

HandSpring has made the single biggest mistake by announcing that they'd be dropping the Visors, and together with it, SBs

So, if you're in Asia, tough luck getting the SBs

So I do not recommend the Prism, at least for people in this region because it is impossible to expand

However, if you just want color, and don't mind bulkyness and 8MB and like cheap prices, without any possibility of expandability in the future, by all means, get the Prism

I would not go back to my Prism. I've got a Sony Cli T665 and an SJ30 that have beautiful 320x320 screens that are visible in the daylight outside!!!! That is the biggest problem I had with my Prism.

Yeah, and that Sony Cli T665 set you back almost a cool $400 compared to the $150 Prism. Think of the cool stuff you could get for the $250 you saved....an 801 wireless card and base station for example.

I would have to say that money is the most important issue unless your rich and have money to burn. But for me a poor college student living in the bay area(most expensive place on the planet), money is very important. Did you know that for a dumpy looking apartment it costs $1000 a month. A normal apartment is $1500 and good apartments is $2000 and up.

Just a word for those in Asia thinking about the prism. Although springboards may be impossible to find in Malaysia/Singapore, you can still get them, at somewhat lower than previous prices in Hong Kong. Of course, as soon as the stores that sell them run out, they will probably be gone forever... Memplugs may last longer, though, since the company that makes them is based in Hong Kong, I believe.

Also, in terms of the size of the prism, while I do look with envy at my friend's new Clie NR70 and would not find it comfortable carrying my prism in a back pocket, the prism is no problem if you are carrying it mainly in a purse, backpack or briefcase. For daily use, using it with a springboard beats carrying a separate MP3 player or camera. I do take a separate MP3 for long trips, especially for long ebooks. A thin Clie with built in MP3 and camera (for fun only) would be wonderful, but I use my xircom modem extensively (saves the cost of slow connections over my phone), and the cost of having to buy a new keyboard and new memory cards in addition to the cost of the PDA will keep me a Prism user for quite some time, I think. It is a great device and it is too bad Handspring has abandoned it.

I upgraded earlier this year from a deluxe and I love it. The only problem I notice, which I knew about, was lack of visibility outside. That doesn't bug me because I don't use it outside (it is fine in my car)
I didn't think color would make a lot of difference, but woo! woo! It does!
I bought mine from another member (who was upgrading) and do not regret the upgrade. they are cheap now, look around and get yourself a good deal.
Battery time for me hasn't been a problem, although if you were planning on using a Soundsgood or other music player a lot, I would suggest getting some kind of travel charger, etc.
I guess I do miss the backwards compatibility of being able to drop into almost any store and buy an emergency set of batteries on the road
Have Fun!
