Thumbs down

My two-week-old Prism passed away this Monday. A moment of silence please.

...

The Prism was off, sitting in the cradle at my desk at work. I got out of my chair to do something, but then remembered my Prism and reached back to get it. As my hand touched the Prism there was a very strong static discharge. I do not know if it was off of the case or off of the screen, I would assume the screen. The Prism actually turned itself on from the shock, and displayed a "Fatal Error" dialog box. I soft reset the Prism. All the information still appeared to be there, but the digitizer did not work. No screen taps, no Graffiti. Did a firm reset, no change. Did a hard reset, no change. The replacement is due today or tomorrow.

I mention this, for others have had problems with static discharges causing their desktop computers to reboot. One needs to be careful, for the damage can be more severe.

Get something metal or whatnot and ground yourself frequently, that's all I'm going to say.

Smile Its Alive !!!!

While waiting a week for my replacement Prism from Handspring, I put the dead Prism in my desk drawer and started using my old Deluxe. When the new Prism arrived, it was obviously a refurbished unit (a little ware on the case, and the serial number sticker is wrinkled). However it appeared dim to me. So I pulled my dead Prism to compare it. However I found that the battery was completely drained. After giving it a little charge so I could compare the two I found that it is now working fine. I'm going to test it further, but it now seams to be working fine.

A week? I thought handspring are shipping their replace units overnight? When I first got my Platinum, I noticed that the up/down buttons were not working well. I called handspring about 3:00 pm, they were very helpful, and I got a replacement unit the next day. I'm very pleased with their customer service.

I glad to hear about the resurrection of your Prism.
