Nope, the power supply plugs into the USB connector on the HotSync cradle. To charge on the road without bringing along your cradle, you need to buy Handspring's travel charger, a $34.95 accessory.

Hopefully someone will do a battery-based recharger for the Prism soon.

(The Sony CLIE actually has a power supply that can double as an on-the-road charger, but it's the only one.)

Note, I do not have a prism so this is just an educated guess....

I agree with ToolkiT. You should be able to just use a plug adaptor and it'll work. That's the way that IBM notebooks work.

Louder speaker!

Hey did anyone else notice? The Visor Prism's speaker sounds much louder than the Visor Deluxe (and my other Palm devices as well). Check it out for yourself -- place your Prism and Deluxe on a table next to each other and go to the General screen in the Prefs app. Switch both Alarm sounds to 'High'. Notice the difference?

Love my Prism.. puts my IIIc to shame!

The "USB" just refers to where it connects on the Visor, to the "USB Hotsync connector."

Okay, I haven't seen a Prism yet and I need to ask a question. The Palm IIIc had very obvious pixelation problems. Does the Prism avoid this problem or does it have the big gaps between pixels as well?

Mesh

Prism has a slightly meshed background which takes a while to get used to. You have to mkae it adjust teh contrast to make it less bright for you to read comfortably.


Side NOte/Rant:
I wonder why the VisorCentral crew is so slow to do their review. Here we are at the biggest Visor community site on the planet, and we have yet to get an official review of the Prism. Everyone else seem to have one up alreadt (C/Net, Pen Computing etc).

Because they ARE the VisorCentral crew... The people on this board can be very demanding, so I'm sure they are really putting the Prism through the paces - to try to answer as many questions/concerns in the review as possible. As you stated, others have put out reviews, but you still want more details, don't you? I know I do.

I tend to agree with James. I'm never going to back to the Deluxe from the Prism. The screen is so bright and easy to read.

This is what I e-mailed someone who asked me what I thought about the Prism:

"I've never seen a Palm IIIc but I have obviously heard a lot of complaints about its screen. I have also been working with PCs for years and have insisted on having the best resolution monitors at work and at home. For these reasons, I expected to be a little disappointed with the resolution but still felt that I needed to have color.

When I first powered the Prism on, I thought to myself "I expected more" as it was pretty dull. After trying some apps that supported color such as BugMe and Ardini's games, I cannot believe how good they look in color! The screen is so bright and I don't even have brightness turned up high. This makes it real easy to see at all times. Handspring should have an app that you can immediately that will show off its capabilities. I have a fairly long bus commute and I am used to battling to see the screen on my Deluxe but coming home today was like a dream -- the screen was great whether I was in shadow, in a tunnel, sun shining through the window, etc.

I am an Afterburner user (26MHz) but the speed of the Prism is impressive. I really really like the case too -- it feels very solid and even looks kinda metallic."

I agree with the color thing. I LOVED my deluxe but after much consideration I knew I would not be satisfied without tryint the color and the rechargable. I LOVE IT ! So much more fun and easier to read with vibrant color. Plus, I use it lots, knowing all I have to do is drop in in the cradle for juicing it up. I think the prism is more fun to use, rather than just informational. The green screen is gone forever in my future.

I agree with you folks on the color. It's not an iPaq, but it's very, very nice. I'm in the process of reconfiguring my old VDx for my fiance, and I'm amazed that what looked so beautiful before (the VDx screen), is now simply hard to look at. And then I went back further and took a look at my old Palm Pilot Personal screen...I was floored...It's virtually non-readable (in contrast to the Prism screen)!!

I'm never going back. I'm going to keep this Visor for a long time.

One bug: I'm always hitting the left side of the Visor to turn it on and off...

Got my Prism yesterday and installed a few apps (DateBk4, iSilo, AvantGo, a few others) then decided to try my Springboard modules. I have the 8Mb memory module and the Backup module.

As soon as I insert either one of them, I get a fatal exception error. Soft-Reset, and the error repeats as the OS is loading. I hard-reset and tried again, no dice.

I called tech support and spoke to a knowledgeable gent there who suggested basically the same things I tried, and asked a few questions about the applications I'd installed, which module I tried first, etc, and informed me that they've had a few other reports of the same problem (5-6 incidents).

They're trying to figure out what's causing it. Since both modules work on my VDX, they seem to think it's hardware-related (and I would tend to agree since even a hard-reset doesn't resolve it).

Handspring is overnighting me a replacement.

Dying for a Prism

I'll be buying a Prism after the first of the year. I was wondering if the screen on the Prism seems less scratch prone than the Visor Deluxe I have?

I use the black leather EB slipper case with belt clip with my Visor Dx. I hope EB or someone comes out with a similar case for the Prism before I buy one in January.

Battery

Hey All,
I have a prism and love it so far. But it seems like the battery isnt lasting too long. Its dropping 1 or 2 percent after 3 minutes or so. Any comments or suggestions? Is it defective?
