I've been an experienced Visor user since December, with few or no problems. Now I'm in computer hell. My PC had slowed to a crawl and so I decided to reformat my hard drive (I know, this was crazy -- and I'll never do it again!). Anyhow, I've loaded everything back on and everything seems to work fine except I can't get my Visor to sync to Outlook 2000. It all worked fine (if slowly) before I started this mess about a week ago.

Now I get a Hot Sync log message: "MAPI was unable to load the information service PSTPRX.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured. (8004010f)." It appears on every application.

Thank heavens I have a backup module -- it's keeping me from totally freaking! But my frustration level has grown each day. I don't even know where to begin at this point.

Can anyone tell me what to do to fix this? This board has been incredibly helpful in the past -- but I've never had such a major problem!

First of all, reformatting your hard drive and reloading Windows was not such a bad idea. I've had similar performance, compatability and stabiliy problems with Win98 recently and I recently did the same thing. My system is now working much better because of it.

This really doesn't sound like a major problem. It just sounds like you have a bad or older version of PSTPRX.DLL. It may have happened if you installed an older program (AWFAX for example) after installing Outlook.

At this point the best thing is to just reinstall Outlook 2000 which should reload the proper version of that dll.

I tried your suggestion -- I completely reloaded Microsoft Office 2000 (including, of course Outlook). But the problem persists. Does anyone know where the problem file resides? How can I reload just that file?

Any other suggestions?

After my previous post, I tried using "Find" to locate PSTPRX.DLL, and it does not exist anywhere on my computer -- or on the Microsoft Office 2000 CD. Is this file created by some program? Which program?

It could be that your MAPI profile is "damaged"-- it may be looking for something that either no longer exists or is looking at another damaged resource/file/program/you-name-it.

First, check your MAPI profile to make sure what it has exists. Most Outlook 2000 installations uses "Personal Folders". If you had a personal folder (PST file) when you installed the mail conduit and then you deleted it the PST file without updating your MAPI profile, I can see this happening on a sync.

Sometimes, you may have to create a new MAPI profile to get things working and/or reinstall the mail conduit.

When you did the reinstall, did you remember to install "Microsoft Messaging?" That is what gives you the core MAPI modules. You also might want to configure an e-mail source before you install your Palm software. The best order to do things is:<OL TYPE=1>
<LI>Install Windows (with Microsoft Messaging)
<LI>Install Office (with Outlook)
<LI>Setup e-mail to your ISP or network mail server
<LI>Install Palm software</OL>
