Question

Can someone suggest whether the 2MB model
is adequate for my needs, or if I should
fork over the extra $60 to get the 8MB model.

I want to use my visor mainly just as an
organizer, but I don't want to be restricted
by the memory in case I start using it for
other applications.

Suggestions?

Thanks

If you're really gonna use it as an organizer with no other grand ideas then I think the 2MB visor would be fine.

If you find that you do need the extra room, you can always buy the memory module saving an expensive mistake and the need to buy a new unit.

The Visor doesn't have a spreadsheet or database, which, having been used to a Psion which comes with these built in, I find limiting. Some things you might have been able to track with a spreadsheet or database, you won't be able to with the Visor unless you buy additional apps. Then there's the fact that the more you use these things, the more you think of doing with them. I think that for the additional $100 it's well worth it to get the Deluxe with the additional memory. Then you will have the Springboard slot available in case you want to use that for other things. You'd have much more flexibility, which is the point of the Springboard concept. So I think it's better to go with the Deluxe from the start.

I haven't had a PDA before, and I'm still waiting for my Visor, so I don't claim to be an authority on the subject, but I do have a pretty good idea of how much you can put in 2 MB of memory. If all you are using are the built in apps, I don't think you will ever have any space problems, unless you have literally thousands of contacts and thousands of appointments. So, assuming a reasonable amount of contacts, appointments, to do items, etc., you should still have room for at least a few dozen additional programs. I've seen Palm programs available for download as small as 2K and as big as 200 or 300K, so it all depends on what you put on it, of course. But 2MB will hold quite a bit.

So why am I getting a deluxe? Well, even though the programs are small, there are thousands of programs available, many of which are freeware. I have a feeling that I will find more and more interesting programs that I want to try as I see more of what's out there. Also, I plan to put a book or two on my Visor, which will probably take most of 2 MB right there. And if I download a few dozen web pages for later reading, that will eat up more space.

So, I think 8 MB will take me quite a while to use up, but the first 2 MB will probably go pretty quickly.

Cool

The Point Of The Visor Is Expanadability. If you are only going to use it for organizational purpasses i say dont even get a Visor go out and get a cheap palm for like 115 dollars, but i know that i am going to like the springboard function so i am goint to buy the visor

However, since the Visor with a cradle is only $145 I'd stay with the Visor. Also, even though the Visor will be my first PDA I've been playing with the PalmOS Emulator on my PC. I've already filled up 3 meg of memory with all kinds of cool programs and I havn't even put in my phone list or started using the date book. So I think the extra bucks for the 8meg is totally worth it.

I downloaded a bunch of books the other day and my 8 meg visor is now about 1/2 full. I probably won't keep all those books on there, but it just goes to show how fast the space can fill up!
