By looking at the yellow book, I found there are two Jo-Ann stores in our town! I dropped in today and found the clear vinyl there. The good thing is you can buy any amount you want, unlike in wal-mart. There are types of different thickness, the thinnest one is labeled as 4 gauge, and the thicker ones are of 8 gauge, 12 gauge and 16 gauge. I found that the 8 gauge one is nice for making screen protect, the price is $2.5 per yard with a width of 54 inches. I bought one feet for ninety cents. It is much more than enough for me.
Cutting the vinyl into correct size is not difficult at all, as long as you have a ruler and a sharp utility knife (or rotary knife which I don't have). The right size is 80mm x 60mm. Before putting the vinyl on the screen, be sure to clean the dust on both the screen and the vinyl. apply the vinyl to the screen gently and use a credit card to make it more smooth. I don't use any oil or water so that it is the tiny bubbles are inevitable. But according to the previous post, those bubbles will disappear in one or two weeks.
Though the vinyl is softer and thinner than the transparency. It is much more scratch resistant. Furthermore, it is more clear, produces less glare, and provides better feeling when writting or tapping on it. I am tatally satified with it.
Getting the vinyl off will be a little bit tricky. It clings very tight. A good way is to use a piece of sticky tape. I did it once because I forgot to clean the dust on the vinyl and I found a small segment of cotton thread under it (it came from a fabrics store, hmm? ).
