Thumbs down

this blows -

everytime my visor kills itself, I have to execute a hard reset since all the soft ones do is give me the flashing palm computing platform logo for hours... anything I am missing? (have stuff like launcher III, IrLink, etc)

Try installing a minimum of apps. What apps are you installing anyway?

Yes - I am kinda doing weird stuff with it (IR synching with the beta IrLink on the Mac and trying to get the CS Setup (Corporate Time) conduits going.

What about Hackmaster stuff? Has anyone run into problems with hacks?

I think the one that is getting me is the CS Setup (the .prc file that directs the Palm DateBook, Address and To-Dos to my desktop machine). Also, everytime I do a "warm reset" from the launcher III menu, it freaks. I will see if I can nail it down. Tried Home (the GUI hack) and that did not make my Visor happy either...

Have you tried doing a "warm reset" instead of a "soft reset"?

Warm resets are explained here http://www.palmgear.com/faq/faq.cfm...=26&catID=1

Warm reset - yep tried that too but still not enough to kill the boot loop beast. It has actually been pretty mellow now that I have removed as much of the garbage apps that I could and got the IR syncing to Mac down. Thank you all for your help! (I didn't know about the faq!)

jonathan,

You might want to read my post ( http://www.visorcentral.com/visor/d...TML/000046.html ) about how I overcame my Fatal Error today.

Talking

Hey thanks - a return might be in order for me too, but I did, in all fairness, jump all over the visor when I got it to try and hack the hell out of it. Now that I have calmed down from the rush, it seems to be pretty good. I will keep trying IR syncing it and see. I know that if I try to do a warm reset from inside Launcher III, it does the boot loop. I wonder if the reset code commands on the visor differ from the palms?

The warm reset that LauncherIII does appears to be soft reset. I've tried it and it asks if I "want to reinstall my hacks" --- this is what a soft reset does.

did an IR sync today and it died (stuck in cleaning-up) and then it had a flashing dot in the upper-left corner after I tried several soft resets to kill the boot loop and then removed the batteries.

I think I have a bad one. The orange is too-cool, but IR is what I need. Hopefully Handspring will take care of it and get me a fresh working one, or I will go with the Vx or VII (bummer).

maybe one way around all my problems is getting flashpro so I can through the IRlink into my ROM (since I don't bring my USB cradle with me @ home). Has anyone tried FlashPro with Visor?

uhh - flashpro=bad, Visor doesn't have flashROM (duh!). Also, Visor tech Support informed me that there are a lot of reports of problems with Launcher III. Launcher III was the one thing that I always kept on through all these problems.

Unhappy

Even w/o anything, a soft reset is damn near impossible. I just came back from buying a Vx - the orange deluxe is heading back home.

RE FlashPro

It flat out dosnt work,.. if you run the setup prc it will tell you there is no flashrom and FlashPro requires at least 2Megs of flash rom to run, then quits. If you attempt to run the program before setup you get a fatal error.

Thank you all for your help. I have been issued an RMA for my orange visor a week or so agao and will be sending back in the next couple of days.

BTW, Infrared beamining/syncing is bulletproof on the Vx with my PowerBook G3 series.

I will look to buy the next generation of Handspring products!
