Visorphone

I saw the offer in the Handspring website for a free visorphone- with activation. I always wanted to combine my cell phone with my PDA so this seemed like a great opportunity to do so at minimum expense. The webpage also stated I would be able to access the internet thru my visorphone (to an ISP) which seemed like icing on the cake. So I ordered the phone. The provider in my area is Voicestream.
The cell phone works ok. The signal strength is not so hot and I get frequent "NO SIGNAL" indications while in structures. I have to turn the phone off, then back on to force it to search for a signal. But since Im not a heavy cell phone user anyways, this is not posing a major problem right now.
What is a major pain is the inability to connect to the internet thru the visorphone. Voicestream has a data service they call I-Stream for wireless internet connection, which, I found out is only available to Windows CE powered PDA'a. Not very good news for me.
So, before jumping on the visorphone bandwagon for wireless internet, check out the provider in your area. If I knew this before making the jump, I wouldnt have jumped. I think I would have looked harder at the windows powered pda's.

have you tried making a connection with your ISP?

have you done a search on this forum for your ISP to see if anyone has been able to connect using your ISP?

As a visor phone user, I can tell you that I have made connection via att and roadrunner.

while you are searching the forum search for voice stream isdn.

Happy Treo 600 user, so far. Thanx Cingular for having an unlocked phone.

My Treo 600 is my phone, my PDA, my watch, and my MP3 player. Oh yeah, I take a picture once in a while with it. Convergence is such a great thing.

Yeah, I'm a VoiceStream customer too. The iStream service is VoiceStream's GPRS high-speed mobile network. It has nothing to do with dialing up to your ISP and using the VisorPhone's built in modem. The VisorPhone isn't GPRS so you can't use that service (though you don't need it if you have a dial-up ISP). I entered my ISP info into the Network preferences screen of the Visor, and it usually connects fine with a strong enough signal.
