After using my 8mg Flash Module for 10 months with no problems, today I downloaded JOT and then tried to move it to the FM with Filemover. Then I got a Fatal Error...
Data Mgr.c,Line:1880 Null dbID passed.... Anyhow, resetting just comes bck to the Fatal Error unless I take the module out, but if I put it back in it says Fatal Error again. My module seems to be fatally dead.

Any ideas?

Jot probably can't be run from the module. Try a warm reset (hold the Up button while resetting). This will bypass all hacks and system extensions but won't erase any data. You should then be able to move (or delete) Jot from the module.

Angry same problem

I have the same problem with my Prism, initially with one 8MB Flash Module, now with -all- my modules (incl. the Xircom modem)!

Same as above, my modules were all working fine for many months. The message I get on module insert is:

Fatal Alert
DataMgr.c, Line:3362, Null dbID passed

A warm reset does not seem to help. The modules are v1.2, I had previously installed the update on the Prism, and if I hard-reset my unit, it can read the modules fine. But after I restore from the Backup Module or a Hotsync, the problem returns.

Please help!

Sounds like you've got something incompatible on the Backup Module and in your HotSync Backup directory.

Unhappy something incompatable

I agree, Mark- it sure doesn't seem to like something in there. But I am a long-tim Palm/Handspring user, and I don't think I am running anything too crazy. And as I said, the Prism was also fine for months. Any idea how to trace what the error message is referring to, or is there a "module prefs" file somwhere I can delete? I am hoping I can find a resolution short of re-installing file by file.

Also, interestingly, I had a "good backup" on my Backup Module when the problem first occured, and when I restored from it, it still did not alleviate the condition.

Is anyone else out there having this issue?

Fatal Error

My original fatal error problem fixed itself after I took out my flash module and let my Handspring just sit over night. When I put the module back in everything opened and I deleted JOT from the flashmodule. Apparently it can't run from there without screwing things up.

Your problem seems a little more complicated OY!

resolution

I did a file-by-file re-install from a hard reset, and then was able to re-produce the crash with the same error message by running WordComplete from a Flash Module. This seems to have been the culprit (fingers crossed).

BTW- the file-by-file re-install didn't take as long as expected (esp. w/ USB HotSync), and I probably cleaned out files that had been lurking in the Palm folders for 4+ years

While most apps will run fine from the module, keep in mind that data files that need to be written to cannot be on one. Also, there are apps that are hard-coded to look for their data in the same physical memory space that they reside in. This may be the case with WordComplete.

Housecleaning is sometimes a necessary evil...
