Visor Prism Locked Up

My Visor Prism is completely locked up. It is stuck on the "Palm Computing Platform" screen. None of the resets work. It will not shut off either. Can anyone please provide some guidance? Thanks.

heres some help for ya...

if you want to save the data, but not necisarily get rid of the error, try putting a pin in the reset slot while holding the up hard button. after it resets, and is in the Palm Computing screen, let go of the up hard button, it SHOULD bring you to the main palm os screen, and from there you can delete anything you might think is causing this.

if all else fails, hard reset...do the same as above, but hold the on/off hard button instead of the up button, and let go. but there goes all your data on your handheld, but it should work afterwards.

IF THAT FAILS, give Handspring a call (very doubtful)

good luck...

Unhappy RE: Visor Prism Locked Up

Thank you for the response but as I mentioned I tried all those resets and nothing worked. I was hoping someone out there could talk me through how to do a power reset. I realize I would have to take the thing apart to do so. What is confusing is Handspring Tech Support is saying do not take it apart it will void your warranty. Well, I am passed the 90 days so as far as I'm concerned I have nothing to lose. I started to take it apart but one of the screws is sticking and I'm afraid of stripping the head. I may try again today. I guess I was hoping someone out there had a better, less invasive solution.

hey...dont force the screws out, i stripped one on my nokia 8920 (damn things are TINY!) and now i cant put it back on.

wait until the battery is dead, the prism should go off. put it back onto the cradle and let it charge fully, then try to turn it back ok.

if that doesnt work, call up handspring and just tell them my 90 days are up, what do i do? also, did you register it yet? the 90 days may start when you register the product, but i dunno.

still, good luck.

Well, you could try a soft reset while it is in the cradle. That resets the power system.

RE: Visor Locked Up

To Thunderbird: Thank you. I tried that, it did not work either.
When I do the soft reset in the cradle I get the same result,
a completely black screen. Then if I push the up button I get
the "Palm Computing Platform" screen back and it is locked up
again. I believe it is in some type of looping scenario and the
only way to solve this is a power down.

To Drakion: I will also try what you said if I cannot get the unit opened without stripping the screw, i.e. let it completely discharge. My only concern with that is that sometimes if you let a unit completely discharge it becomes unchargeable. Maybe that is not the case with the type of battery in this unit. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

Thank you to both of you for taking the time to respond.

Robert

hey again, ive let the battery run out on my prism before, its not harmfull. if anything, just call up handspring and tell them its not past the 90 days...thats what i would do.
