Question

Hi there!
I have a question related to the pending
release of the MP3 player:
Since I am running NT4.0 on my PC, I do
not have the luxury of a USB connection.
So, in order to find out how long
it would take to load 64MB on the player,
I would need to know the max speed of the
serial cradle connection.
Does anyone know?
Thanks

Dave

Question

I believe that it is 115K, but I'm not sure if the Palm software utilizes it at this speed or not.

Anyone??

That's a good question... since there is no handshaking in the serial connection and based on what their Developer's Kit information states:

quote:
from Section III - 2 of the DevKit:

The Cradle Connector contains two serial buses that communicate with external devices: a USB
bus and a simple serial bus. The high-speed USB interface is a slave-only interface, providing a
payload bandwidth of up to 400 Kbps between a host PC or Mac and the handheld device. The
serial port provides asynchronous capability to low-speed devices (9600 Kbps or less).

...I'm guessing it's 9600. On the other hand, HotSync Manager is hardcoded up to 57,600 in the Local setup along with the "As Fast as Possible" option... not that I know what any of this really means.

I heard that you need to have a usb to use the minijam, that's what's been implied by many innogear articles.

A while back I did a Speed Comparison article that compares the Serial vs. USB speeds.
