Question

I just got off the phone with Handspring. I have a small crack in the casing of my Prism, and they are sending me a replacement. However, I worry about the whole "refurbished vs. new" replacement issue. I had bad luck with this same issue with Packard Bell a few years ago and have heard not great stories from some people regarding getting refurbished replacement Visors.

Is there any way to tell the difference between a Visor that is new vs. one that is refurbished? Just curious...

Thing is, one only hears about the bad experiences. If people get the service that they expect, they say nothing. If they get bad service, they complain. I can say that I received a refurbished Visor Deluxe, and had no problem with it for the four months I used it until I got my Prism.

When I first received my replacement Deluxe, I took a close look. The only thing I could see was some slight ware marks in the springboard slot, but such could have been caused by just a few usages. As far as serial number, or some mark other indication, I have not heard of any.

I am on my 3rd Prism and it is much better than the first two.

- Number 1 had a bad power button that would not turn the unit off.

- Number 2 had cracks in the bottom near the hotsync connector and near the top near the springboard connector.

Handpspring got me a new unit within 2 days. I am completely satisfied.
