Angry

Okay, I just got my Prism a little over a week ago and I love it (Got it with the MCI deal). Friday though, I went to take out my trusty Prism to jot down some notes and when I turned it on iSilo was still open. I tapped the home button to go back to the launcher, but it scrolled the text. No matter where I tapped the screen, it just scrolled the text. So I used the hard keys to go to the built-in apps and tried tapping in them, just like iSilo they didn't work. If I tapped the graffiti area it would bring up the menu, everywhere else did nothing. I did several soft & warm resets, and finally a hard one - none of which solved the trouble. I was stuck on the digitizer training part of setup.

I contacted Amazon & Hanspring Tech Support about getting a replacement (None of them have replied yet) and meanwhile left the Prism out of the cradle. Eventually its battery drained all the way and I placed it in the cradle, kablam! It works now!

Now I have to decide wether to keep this Prism or if I should exchange it. Anyone have any input on this? Has anyone else ever had it occur, and did it ever re-occur?

Not to be mean, but did you read the problem I had or just automatically post that when you saw digitizer problem? The problem I had was more severe than graffiti simply not registering properly or taps being off a few pixels. I couldn't do ANYTHING, and how could I have installed the patch anyhow? If you can't set the digitizer in Welcome theres no way out.

Anyways, I DID have the patch installed and I even removed the screen protector to make sure something wasn't under it (In case anyone offers that as a remedy).

I have briefly had the same problem with it getting stuck on the digitizer. I had to do a hard reset to get back. It turned out to be a software conflict. And I recovered. If you have had the unit and it worked well for a while and now it doesn't see if you installed something that screwed things up. Sometimes there are db files in there that you can not delete with the normal deletion. I used the FAfilemover program from David Kessler to actually see all of the files. And I was able to delete files from there that did not belong.

Angry Prism Digitizer Troubles

Exact same thing happened to me, just now.

First, the silkscreened buttons would just bring the menu. Tried resetting, the digitizer was turned off since the Visor just beeped anytime I tried to tap the screen. Did a couple more resets, a couple warm resets, finally a couple of hard resets.

The hard resets simply sent me to Digitizer Hell (tm). The visor asked me to use the stylus to tap the center of the target at the top left of the screen. Then the target moved to the bottm right of the screen. Then it moved back to the top left. Then the bottom right. Back up to the top left. Then the bottom right... you get the idea :-)

I guess I'll have to wait until the battery runs out. And I just fully charged the battery, too! :-0

I too am considering whether to return the unit. If I did, should I get another Prism, or should I get myself
another kind of Visor or even another brand?

It is a sweet machine, otherwise.

PS: I think the reset pin should be at the ToP of the Visor stylus not the tip. Everytime I reset the Visor, I have to unscrew the tip, reset it, then screw the tip back in to digitize it. If the pin was at the top of the visor, I can reset, then immediately have the pen ready to digitize the visor.

I've decided to try to get an exchange unit from Handspring since paint is starting to rub off a lot of my Prism (The section above the screen looks just like a giant smudge).

I e-mailed them Friday about a replacement (Before I knew about the battery) and they still haven't replied. I also e-mailed Amazon, originally thinking it would be better to get a brand new one from them, but they haven't replied either and I figure they'll just send me another with paint problems. Oh well, now I play the waiting game...

Finally got a reply, told me they couldn't handle it in e-mail and to call a toll number which told me to then call a toll free number. They say I should have a replacement in a few days. When asked if it would be refurbished or not they simply said they couldn't tell me, and that if it was refurbished that it had gone through extensive testing.

Out of the box my prism had similar problems. It would not respond to certain tap commands. Handspring replaced it no problem. I wanted a new one and not a refurbished one. They informed me that the unit is still too new and that replacements were new.

Talking Visor digitizer woes, crash & burn

I've got my Visor back, but it was a harrowing journey. Well, okay, harrowing may be too much, too melodramatic... even if it was true :-)

All right, so my Visor suddenly developed this terrible digitizer problem. Any silk-screened button I tap, the only response was that the menu would pop down.

After a soft reset, the Visor became semi-dead to my touches. Anything I do, it would just beep.

The hard reset began the digitizer carousel. The Visor asked me to tap the center of the target at the top left of the screen, then at the bottom right of the screen. Then it went back to the top left of the screen, then the bottom right again, then the top left again... and so on.

Following Matthew Nichols's experiences, I kept the Visor turned on and waited for the battery to run out, which took most of the evening.

Near the end of the battery's llife, the screen kept flashing before it died.

So, I put it back on the cradle. It wouldn't turn on. Worried, I called the store the next day. They told me to bring it to them during lunch time, but to charge it in the meantime. So I did, then I boxed it and went to them.

I wasn't paying attention to sequence of events, but apparently what they did was simply turn it on! That's it! No problems whatsoever!

Well, thank goodness I have my Visor back. I was getting lonely without it :-)

However, is this crash going to be a commonplace event? Does it/ can it happen on any Palm, or only on some (unfortunate) Visor units?
