I just got off the phone with the sales department at the Sony store in downtown Chicago. I was just making a cursory check to see if they had any idea when the Clie 700 series (you know color 320x320 screen) would make it to the states.
The salesperson told me they would be in the store on May 1st. There will be no pre-orders taken. You can guess where I will be that morning.
Folks, remember you heard it here first.

Nope. I would assume it should be in line with the Yen price. US$ 450 or so. If you don't have a Sony card, you should get one. No interest for 12 months. If I decide to keep the Clie, it gives me quite a bit of time to sell my Prism.

Oh my God!!! My prayers have been answered!!!
You better not be lieing to me...that Clie better be available on May 1st, because I'm going to be the first person in the United States to own one. (I'd let George W. go first though I think I'll call him up and tell him to get one...and then have him call up Bill Gates and tell him that PPC should give up.)
With Stereo audio in my palm and 320*320 beats out that 240*320 that whats his face has...iPaq.
Come on Sony...don't fail me now!!! Teach Palm a lesson!!!
And those headphones look really nice too!!!

Remember what Palm said...they want to be like Microsoft and just make Palm OS and not like Apple and make BOTH hardware and the OS.
BTW do you think the Handera device will be color?
At this point if ANY device comes out in color AND sound within a month...I won't look at a PPC again...err...maybe...

Is the Clie going to be Mac and Linux friendly? From what I understand the first Clie wasn't.

Sadly, no more so than the current crop.
However, you can get a shareware set of drivers for Macs from :

The thing I am unhappy about is MP3 player seems to use non-standard mp3 files. The converter is Windows only.
If anyone is interested in the size differences between the color units they are:
Visor Prism: 4.8h x 3.0w x 0.8d 6.9oz
Palm m505: 4.5h x 3.1w x 0.4d 4.9oz
Sony 700c: 4.65h x 2.8w x 0.65d 5.65oz
So the Sony is smaller than the Prism, but not quite as sweet as the m505 size wise.
The Prism uses Li Ion batteries, and the Clie has Li Polymer. I'm not wure what the Palm is using.
The Clie and Palm use the side lit reflective color screen as opposed to the backlit TFT of the Prism. Between the screen type and the battery style, you should be able to get much better battery life out of the Clie.

Li Polymer...it was the big news that the batter is shaped to fit in such a small container..hence they used Li polymer.

I think it is safe to say that the Clie offers the hardware of the Pocket PC with the Operating System of the Palm OS...
If only they could booost that 33mhz....i guess thats what overclocking is for :-)
I KNOW I'M GETTING ONE!!!
I can't wait to carry around my MP3s and be able to watch videos!!!

Just keep in mind that those videos, while good in resolution, will only be 256 colors. That and supporting the Magic gate memory stick with "copy" protection will keep me away. Besides, I have some Springboards I want to keep using.
I'm hoping Handspring will bring it all together.
