Question

So, I just bought this cool new Handspring Platinum and I decided to order the Minstrel S through YadaYada. I went and signed up online and their website said I will receive an email with a tracking number. Well, so far I have received nothing from YadaYada and when I called today I was told it could take up to a week.

Does anyone have any similar experiences to share on the time to receive their Minstrel from yadaYada?

Hopefully not long. I called and ordered today as well [OmniSky can bite me for not supporting the Deluxe!] and was told that it may take up to a week. I hope that's just a conservative time frame.

Well, YadaYada did email me some software, but I still have no tracking number for the modem. I haven't installed the 'minstrel.prc' file yet, just waiting on the modem.

I called their customer service (?) since the email only included the file and no instructions. I was hoping they could give me an update on the status of the modem order, but all they told me was to ignore the file until I get the modem. They did say it may come by the end of the week.

Minstrel/platinum

I ordered the modem tuesday before Thanksgiving and received it a week later, still have not gotten a confirmation e-mail and it's Dec 6? I had an old Visor, Handspring said they were sending a corrected one, but 5 days later, when I called they said BACKORDER! I went to Best Buy and got a new one, didn't see much better performance. I begged my wife for an early present, and went back to get the Platinum. 10 TIMES BETTER! the OS3.5 works, I get PQA's. Platinum feels more solid than the Visor. Minstrel's reception has increased greatly by using the Platinum. I'd recommend the combo to anyone. The waiting sucks, though.

I guess I was just spoiled by all the great e-commerce experiences I have had lately that when on didn't provide 110% from their customer service department.

Needless to say the modem arrived today... Now all I have to do is wait for it to finish charging and then see if this thing is as cool as it seems it will be.

pusfarm -> I ordered on Monday. Received on Wednesday, so it was pretty quick.

iluvblue -> The Minstrel S from YadaYada comes with their own 'Yada Browser' It crashed on me a few times so I went looking for a new browser. I saw a link here about Blazer being released so I downloaded it. If you plan on using a browser this is the killer browser. I have had no problems with getting Blazer (or AvantGo) to work with YadaYada's service.

My only complaints are that both my home and office seem to be in fairly dead zones for CDPD coverage. I can get a good signal in my bedroom but not the rest of the house. And it is nearly impossible to get a signal at the office (large brick building downtown)

I just gave up on downloading the software from Yadayada site. It is so slowwwwwwwww navigating thru that site. Maybe I will try again later.

iluvblue -> Yeah, their website is painfully slow. There is no need to download the software, it is included in the memory of the Minstrel S. So, as an added bonus you gat about 1 MB of extra free RAM with the Minstrel.

thanks, my fear is that the reception will be terrible in my area also. I live in Boston MA, and all these tall building give my cell phone signals all kind of problems. I am just hoping that it works well in the suburb where I live and commute to work.

Yep, I got it Thursday - ordered Tuesday. So far, I can't get a signal at home [LAX area], but I'm gonna go for a little drive to see if it improves. I called Handspring to order the optimized Deluxe and was told it would take about 72 hours. We'll see... Until then I'm gonna see how it works with the "old" Deluxe.

YADA YADA Modem

I received my modem about 2 weeks ago. After numerous calls to tech support (email was not working correctly and browsing was very hit or miss), I finally got hooked up on a conference call with someone from Novatel. Yada kept telling me that the reason that there was no RSSI reading was because I was not in a CDPD area....NOT true! So...bottom line...if you are not getting an RSSI reading at anytime, it is a faulty modem. I have the main Yada number if you want it...not the 800 number with the techies with attitude! Now that the modem is working I LOVE it!

I'm not gonna hold my breath, but I'd love to see how the Minstrel works on an optimized Deluxe. Lets hope that the 72 hour estimate is a sign that they're getting their act together. My 3 days should be Monday. Hmmmmm.....
