I've got the USB cradle, win98, USB enabled and working.
When I got my visor I loaded some data into it then tried a hot sync.
The datebook synced, but there was an "error getting next record" in the address book.
Most time I get this error:
HotSync Error: Connection is lost (6410)

Other times I get a "could not purge record", and then a "The memory in your handheld may be full", also a " Could not copy the following record to the handheld:"
One time I turned off all conduits and I got no error messages. That felt good.

What is going on here? Can someone help me?

Hmmm... tough one. It sounds like all of these problems are due to an interrupted connection during the HotSync. Does it always only happen during Address Book synchronization? Are you synching to Palm Desktop or Outlook?

I am syncing to Palm Desktop, I dont use outlook. Once I turned everything off and tried to sync only the memo, that failed too, with same error: check out these two

See what I mean? When I'm doing this, no other programs are running except the sync manager. I dont even have any other usb applications.

Im using a Cyrix 333 with onboard USB, my device manager has two items:
Sis 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
USB Root Hub

I have reinstalled both of these and done a soft and hard reboot. No effect, same error.

I've got a parallel port zip drive, but that shouldnt matter should it?

Does this clarify anything?

update to the above:
I removed my parallel port zip and scanner and rebooted.
Then I did a sync, and it worked, sort of. Everything synced, (my memo pad transferred), but I had installs disabled.
I went back and tried to install the games, and it gave same error. I turned installs off again and same thing.
Now it doesnt ask me to identify the users, just quits.

A while back someone mentioned something that I kept in mind, that changing the speed to a bit slower on the port (using windows) fixed their problem... Hope this helps.

I've tried this, but I thought it applied to serial cradles only?
it had no effect, btw, but thanks anyway.

problem partially solved:
I tried hotsync with my visor on another computer and it worked fine, so the problem is with my machine's USB ports. I've just got to find out what it is.
Anyone heard of a service pack to address USB problems in win98?

I had to install Windows 98 Second Edition in order for the USB port to work properly with the Visor cradle on my Compaq Presario 1255 (Notebook) computer. I ordered the 98 upgrade directly from Microsoft for 19.95.

what a crock! I guess I don't have any choice if I want this thing to work.. isn't there a free alternative?

- Install failed: C:\Program Files\Palm\Jon\Install\avantgo.prc
Install synchronization failed
HotSync Error: Connection is lost (6410)
Whenever I try to install something. It worked fine with Memo Pad ToDo List and everything, but wihen it installs something over 90kb or ANY file database (.pdb) it freezes for about 15 secs and then gives that error message. Also, don't but Win98 SE, I have it and it doesn't make any difference whatsoever. If you find a solution to this ever email me at [email protected] .
