/me puts all attempts at posting in French on /ignore

Meanwhile, I'm starting to see some regional influence on the number of posts. Is there anyone in the top 10 from the midwest or central states? Seems they're either in warm places where nothing slows down the talking but the style of living, or up no'th where y'all have to do something to stay warm...I just never pictured posting as that activity.

it could be either Joie de vivre or raison d'tre, really.

Oh, yeah. But not too bad for someone who hasn't taken a French class since 1988-1989.

Yet you get corrected by somebody who hasn't taken a French class since 1988-1989 either

The latter fits more in context.

C'est vrai

As I tell my students day in and day out - never try to translate word for word.

Mais, mon ami, you indicated that I hadn't noticed that the birthdays were plural, when in fact I had included the "s" but left off the "e."

Un 'tit peu. I understand a lot more than I speak, though. My parents didn't speak much at home because they grew up in the tail-end of the generation where it was effectively cause for punishment in school (which is why I oppose English-only legislation despite generally advocating the learn the language sentiment, i.e. I think people should learn to speak english as a common tongue which binds us as a country, but I think it's evil to legislate it to the detriment of other languages and cultures).

Yep, we're on the southeastern end of Cajun Country.
