I've been having a strange problem with my 8 meg flash ram springboard, since the first day I recieved it... If I load up a bunch of programs on it and go to the built in app launcher... with the settings set to list and all... I get a scrambled background with my app list... (only during the "view all" screen, if I sort my icons (games/system etc) it clears up... and its only on the first screen refresh... if I scroll down the list the lower levels are ok.. (well except for the very top and the far right.. which still show hints of #@!^%^%) it looks sorta like the debug rom screens. While it doesnt cause the system to crash it is strange and annoying... And I have a hard time explaining to people why my screen looks all messed up. I called handspring tech support and was eventually told that they had no idea and would get back to me about the problem... well a week (or so) later I found a strange message on my answering machine which I assume is from them (if theres anyone at handspring that can verify this I would be grateful) the message went something like.. "dear mr so and so.. we have found a fix for your problem but it will take 3 weeks for us to fully test it so we will get back to you..." I can't be sure it was them because they diddn't identify themselves during the msg...
but I'm posting here to see if anyone else has had this problem. (I wasn't running any hacks at first and as far as I can tell it isnt any of my programs causing it... ie I'm not running launcher or anything else that would change the list) (No, turning overclocking off diddnt change anything)
oh and as to my overclocking warning...
Today I had my system running at 28999khz (after burner) and while I was moving files over to the flash ram card I got a fatal exception.... Which then lead to a screen saying that the data on the card was now corrupted and the card won't be recognized until I format it... AGGGGHHHHHH...
hopefully others will learn from my mistake and not overclock while moving large files :/
....
Now if only backup buddy would backup stuff on the flash ram card....

I had problems with the 8Mb module too. I tried to "copy" everything from internal to external. It completed. But then when I tried running certain programs (from Internal) I got fatal errors. Finally I had to cold reset the Visor and Format the module. Then I had the fun of restoring from incomplete backups from Palm Desktop.

(Somehow this is all reminiscent of the 1980s...)

Because the 8MB unit uses Flash memory instead of Static RAM, there can be problems with certain applications. Specifically applications which write to their own databases cannot have those databases stored on the Springboard module. The PalmOS has trouble writing to Flash memory. It's okay to put the applications on the module, but the databases should reside in the Visor's main memory area.
