Red face

A CSR (I know, another CSR story) told me the reason my 9/14 order had not yet shipped was there were a lot of orders ahead of me (I ordered at 11:30 CDT 9/14) and Handspring is only shipping 100-150 units per day at this point; hoping to increase to 1000 per day by end of next week (10/29).

I guess in order to keep the promised 10/15 shipping date they put some out the door. I imagine the 8:00am orders should be filled by now.

Anyway, that explains why my (and so many others) credit card has not yet been charged, and why only 3-4 of our 600+ members on this board got theirs yesterday.

Many of the people on this board haven't ordered a Visor. If you look at the current poll, 25% of 485 people have not ordered one. Also, depending on where the people live, it will take a few more days.

Hang in there!

It really would be nice to have a separate forum for rumors. (Or at least have an icon for "rolling my eyes".) No offense, dstrauss, but ....

And before anyone makes the mistake again, *no*, this discussion board is *not* all just rumors.

That has to be just another CSR story. My credit card was CHARGED on 10/15. They are not charging people until the order is shipped and I ordered at the END of the day on the 14th.

Theres a guy here at my office who ordered on 9/18 and was charged for his on 10/15 as well. It seems as though they have shipped the entire fisrt week.

My credit card was charged 10/17 and I ordered the Visor sometime around the 21st. Of course, I also CANCELLED my order, but that's Handspring for ya. I guess when it comes I'll give my new IIIx to my girlfriend.

I beg to differ. I ordered mine mid-day Eastern Time on the 9/15, and Sunday I was told it would go out "sometime this week".

Thumbs up

I ordered mine on 9/18. Made a change on 9/20 to add a serial cable. I called visa yesterday and my credit card has been charged. Called Handspring yesterday also (three minute wait time at 2:00pm cst). They found my order, with the change that I requested.

Whether I get it this week or next or even the next, I'm satisfied. Handspring has always said 4-6 weeks! If I get it within six weeks, they've keept their commitment.

My experience with them has been good so far. Why? Because I cut them some slack, with the assupmtion that I'll be satisfied in the end.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

Question

I am beginning to get concerned. I ordered a VDx on the morning of Sept 14. Then, about 3 weeks later, I ordered (online) one of Handspring's own custom cases. When I called this past Friday I was told that, based on the fact that no record of my order(s) were available, my order must have been sent to shipping. Yet, here it is Tuesday and my credit card has not been charged. Anyone else in the same boat?

Anyone else order one of Handspring's cases? Will they ship with the Visor or separate?

(Sorry for lamenting here folks, but until we get our new toys, this UBB will have to double as a support group!)

Offense taken.....

"Rumor" is a bit rough don't you think. CSR's all seem to have different stories, but I didn't make up his explanation that only 100-150 per day were shipping. If he's dealing in rumors, that's pretty bad for Handspring, since it's their employee (contract or otherwise) that is spreading the information to the public. It's also a very specific number to be throwing out there from Handspring's perspective.

It would have been easy for him to give the usual "limited quantities are shipping" explanation.

I'm sorry you took offense, but shipping level IS at the 'rumor' level. Many CSR's have indicated that the entire first week has been shipped. Some people who ordered after the 14th are shipping, and some people who ordered on the 14th seem not to be. Since only a supervisor can even check the 'sent to warehouse' orders, I think most CSRs are just guessing based on what they've heard to date. Mine certainly sounded like he was...

I guess order and shipping numbers are a very very close secret and only the inner inner inner circle will know those numbers.

Once they break the 'magic mio.' they might announce it.

Mitch;

Yup. I am in kind of the same boat. I ordered mine at 930a on 9/15 and still no charges on my credit card.

Mitch, I ordered ~3pm est and I have not been billed HOVEVER, handspring DID reserve the money from my bank which only holds money for 48hrs. See the string on credit card charges to see my quest to find out what the hell is going on...

Just so you know, the CSR's you are talking to are NOT employed by Handspring. They work for another company, which was hired by Handspring to handle thier customer service. It is likely that many of them are ill-informed. You know how these things get started. One of the CSR's who works for the other company will be in the break room and hear outside the door "Yeah, they just shipped 150 of them." What the person meant is that a shipment of 150 Visors just went out the door, but that another truck is just arriving to pick up some more (or something like that). The person in the break room hears "Yeah, they're ONLY shipping 150 of them." So then he starts telling the callers that that's what's going on. What it all amounts to is that (especially with UPS ground) we have no idea when we'll be receiving our new toys, and the CSR's don't know anything more (usually) than we do. So hang in there. All good things to those who wait.

dstrauss,

I'm sorry you took offense where none was meant.

Given the wide variation in CSR reports here (and elsewhere) on shipping dates, etc, any the-CSR-I-talked-to-said reports are *rumors*. There really is no better word for stuff like this.

I'm sure the CSRs are all very nice people. Certainly the one I talked to a month+ ago was. But given the reports attributed to them over the past few weeks, I can't see why anyone would take these reports seriously. It's not just take-it-with-a-grain-of-salt anymore -- these reports are pretty obviously worthless.

Apology accepted.

You are right; the CSR reports have been all over the map. I guess my frustration level finally got to me. It was odd, however, that his explanation seemed to fit my delivery experience. I don't know about the rest of you, but my credit card is EXTREMELY efficient and quick in getting a charge onto my account (a rare case of same day service <g> oftentimes). So if my 9/14 order is in the system, and they shipped, they did so without charging my card, which I find to be hard to believe.

Anyway, congratulations to those of you who got yours; and wish the rest of us luck.
