Using a Prism with Thinmodem+, along with either the One-Touch email client or HezArts's mMail, every time I try to send I get an "error 550". Any ideas?

Error 550 is often a 'relaying' error.

This happens when you try to send an e-mail out a different SMTP server (your outgoing mail server) than the server your actually dialed into.

For example, let us say I have an ISP I use at home which is the ISP I have my POP3 account with. We'll say that this ISP is called 'home' and my mail settings look like this:

POP3 (incoming) server: mail.home.com
SMTP (outgoing) server: mail.home.com

This all works fine when I'm dialed into my 'home' ISP.

However, while on the road, I use earthlink. If I try to send/receive mail while dialed into earthlink, I will be able to receive mail, but when I send I will get an error 550 - Relaying not allowed error message.

This is because earthlink will pass the outgoing mail onto mail.home.com, who will in turn reject it because it doesn't recognize the server it came from (this is an automatic SPAM filter imposed by my 'home' ISP).

To get around this, I'll change my e-mail settings to read:

POP3 (incoming) server: mail.home.com
SMTP (outgoing) server: mail.earthlink.net

My username and password for my POP3 account will remain the same, because they only pertain to INCOMING mail. To send mail requires NO username or password (hence the need for a spam filter).

You will also want to keep your return address setting the same. That way, even though you now use earthlink (in this example) to send your mail, when someone receives it it will still appear with you 'home' ISP's email address.
