Question

I ordered my VDx Nov 12th. From what I read the wait for a Visor is now 8 to 9 weeks. I can get a Palm IIIx from Buy.com for $208 + shipping. I just need to be talked into waiting by those of you that have the Visor. Is it really worth it??

If you are going to get a IIIx get it from valueamerica.com. You can get $120.00 of the price. You have to join for free sign up for their birthday and visa programs.
The Price comes out to be $142.00 after the rebates.

The Value America deal is no longer being offered. I guess they were losing too much money.

Donsell,

Here is a long post from a few days ago that will confirm it's worth the wait over a Palm unit.

Plus if you're anxious to get a Visor Deluxe and you don't mind spending a few extra bucks, you can find people selling their extras (many of us got double-shipped) on EBay. Prices vary -- anything from $50 under normal cost to $55 over.

Good things come to those who wait.

The Visor is excellent. If you get a Palm, you won't have as much memory (unless you upgrade), you won't have the springboard slot, and you won't have the cool colors .

It is definitely worth the wait. If you're worried about Handspring turning out to be a loser company, I don't think that's going to happen. They seem to be working through their problems, and all of the people that I have interacted with who were actual Handspring employees (the CSR's are NOT employed by Handspring) were very prompt, professional, and courteous. I think it's a great company that we will be seeing more good things from in the future.

Angry

Wait til the next generation of visors. "Fatal Exception" might as well be the visor's startup screen.

You can now get transparent colored cases for Palm IIIs, in colors like Red and Purple even:
http://www.palmcolors.com/

You have to click on the "products" link to see the purple color. They cost something like $30-$40.

Since Handspring **still** can't get their act together, I seriously asked myself if I wanted to get a Palm III instead. I decided that I still want the extra memory in the Visor Deluxe, as well as the Springboard slot. So, I'm simply going to wait until I can get them from someplace other than Handspring - either a trusted ecommerce place like Outpost.com or Amazon, or else my local store.

The "Fatal Exception" seems to be only for people who install incompatible software, without realizing it. There was only one person who got this error with just the builtin apps. If it were a big problem, people here would be complaining about it even louder than about Handspring's terrible customer service and fulfillment.

Thanks for your feedback. I'll try to stick it out. I do hope Handspring can get their act together, especially if they have a superior product.

It surprises me the number of Palm V users that prefer the Visor. It does not surprise me that people prefer Palm devices over WinCE. I think the Visor will do what I need, not give me alot of flash I don't need at greater expense and weight. Even color, IMHO is overkill for a device like this.

I had mine for about 3 weeks. This is really a neat product. I use mine everyday, and the Springboard module is really a neat feature. It looks like there will be some neat modules in the next 2-3 months.
