Question

Hi there,

I know some people out there made their own 'Visorport to serial converter for GPS' so they can hook up their standalone GPS to their Visor.

Is anybody willing to make another one and sell it to me??
If so what model of GPS are you using? I'm thinking of buying a GPS and would like to hook it up to my visor for roadmapping...

As a side question, does anybody know good mapping software for Australia?

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

ToolkiT,
Check out this thread for info on GPS to Visor connection/usage:
http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...p?threadid=5597

You basically have 4 options right now for the serial "converter":
1) get one of Wayne's (WaC - a poster on the above thread) Hotsync connectors, he will sell it to you and all you add is the DB9 or the GPS connector - my personal favorite.
2) use a Handspring serial cradle (but you need to power it and most GPS units will not supply enough power for it).
3) wait until the MarkSpace serial cable is available (last I heard - a week or so ago - it is not yet shipping).
4) construct your own - know much about EE?

I believe, to date, the only GPS units that have been confirmed to work with Wayne's connector (and reported on VisorCentral) are the Magellan GPS 315 and the Garmin eTrex.

Mapping software for Austrailia?? I am no help there.

Or, a 5th option is to buy the EFIG springbourd module to connect to the external GPS unit (provides RS232 connectivity).
