Hotsync error codes

A previously stable system (MacG4 OS9.1.Hotsync 2.6.1 Visor deluxe OS3.1H3 USB cradle) has suddenly started returning ' failed (error = #-1)' on some, but not all, conduits during Hotsync.
Can anyone point me to a list of error code meanings, or explain what might be wrong ?

1) is the error on the Mac or the Visor?
2) has anything changed recently on your Visor or Mac (new software of any kind, extension update, a horrific crash)?
3) have you tried a reset of your Visor?

The error is shown in the hotsync log on he Mac.
Any recently installed software has been removed.
The Visor has been warm reset.
The Mac has been restarted and the desktop rebuilt.
There have been no crashes on either.
