omniremote question

If I get a 2mb visor for a dedicated remote, can I get it to go to the omni app as soon as it is turned on? I dont want to be at the home screen, then have to select the omni app to get to the remote.

Can I set my buttons to TV, VCR, DVD & Surround to automaticly call the correct remote button layout?

Can I set my Visor so that the backlight comes on automaticly every time also?

Are you talking about using the Springboard module, or just the Omniremote software? With the software, you can only assign the Visor buttons to specific remote buttons - such as having the page up/page down buttons on the Visor control the volume on your TV. But you can only assign one button to one function on one remote control unit. You could assign a Visor button to turn on the Visor and start Omniremote, but Omniremote starts up with whatever remote unit you were using last time. So you can't really assign different Visor buttons to bring up a different remote, even when Omniremote is already running. Or maybe there's a hack that would do that for you with the power on button AND turn on the backlight, but I don't know about that.

(I have the software on my "backup" Visor, which serves as a dedicated bedside remote and alarm clock.)

sorry, I wasn't quite clear. I'm talking about the springboard omniremote, I'm just trying to get a little more info before I purchase.

By the button question, what I meant was:
I envision needing about 4 different "screens" of omniremote "buttons".
The DVD "screen" would have "buttons" for play, stop, rew....
The Surround "screen" would have "buttons" for volume, source....
with all the electronic crap I've got to adjust I don't think I could fit all the "buttons" on one screen w/o having to use a stylus.
I would like to make the physical calendar button on my visor call the TV omniremote "screen" and the physical address button call the DVD omniremot "screen"....

You can do all that, no problem. Omniremote is designed and programmed to do exactly what you want to do. Training the different (virtual) remotes takes a little time, but once it's done, it's done. I control 2 TVs, a VCR, my stereo and my dad's TV with it. (It's pretty amusing... OK, amusing to a geek, anyway ...to train it on someone else's remote while they're out of the room, then flip the channels on them while you are innocently "checking your schedule." Except that without the module, the Visor has to be held sideways...sort of gives it away.)

Let me share my own experience.
What you can do:
You can assaign any 6 buttons from your OR screens to 6 buttons on your Visor. For example you can create button with type "category" and name it DVD. It will represent screen on which you can place all DVD related controls. After that you can accign "category" button DVD to Address button on Visor. When your active application is OR (it's important!) every time you pressed Address button it will turn your Visor on on DVD screen.
What you can't do:
You can't change hard buttons assignment. No matter what screen is active - only 6 fixed buttons can be assigned to Visor buttons. At least in current version (v1.171).

And you have to remember that all useful functionality (hard button assignments, timers etc) will work only when OR is active application.
As for launching OR... well you can use DateBook/Address/ToDo/Memo buttons instead of regular Power one to power on your Visor (and link all of them to OR application).

Programming Screens

I own the OmniRemote SB and I've programmed 10 televisions, CD player, Surround Sound, DVD, Two VCRs, and my ceiling fan! It's quite easy and the included directions are very simple. Be very careful should you decided to upgrade the software version-you don't want to accidentally erase all of your settings with the upgrade. I think OmniRemote is Awesome! I use it at home, work lounge, gym and at friends' homes. It;s a great conversation piece! Geek Factor is pegged!
