I cannot recommend this module highly enough. I'm a former VisorPhone user, who was never altogether happy with that product. Short battery life, trouble losing connection, poor sound quality, and of course restricted service coverage because of the absence of large GSM networks in the US. The Sprint Digital Link resolves all this issues, while also improving the bandwidth and dial-in time significantly. Absolutely no problems using it with my Visor Platinum and it gets heavy use.

I know Sprint and Handspring both made promises that there would be a software upgrade for this module that would enable it to use the fast 3G network, and it looks like they are reneging on this promise. But you know what? For what I do--email, light browsing, occasional FTP sessions to update my web site--I don't need 3G bandwidth, and I certainly don't need to pay for Sprint's pricey PCS Vision service. I've never tried a wireless sync--I imagine that would be slow--but I really don't need to do that and if I did it would happen on weekend trips when I have tons of free minutes I never use.

One word of caution. Whether you're interested in the Treo 300 or the Digital Link, you should know that Sprint's customer service is pure evil! Pray you don't have many problems to resolve because they are NOT interested and wouldn't know how to help if they were! I've not found other wireless providers to be much better, but Sprint does seem to take the cake for poor customer care. Fortunately, my problems have been very few so I'm still a happy camper.

All in all, I'm happier with a $150 Visor Platinum and the Digital Link than I would be with a $500 Treo 300. While I'm sure the Treo is colorful and incredibly snappy at 144kbps, I can wait 20 seconds for my monochrome email to download thank you very much. And I have Springboard expansion for my Eyemodule2 and voice recorder, which I don't get with the Treo.

I guess Handspring isn't counting on there being many people like me, because if there were they'd be killing their Treo 300 sales by giving away the Digital Link.

How do you actually get the module? Handspring didn't have any purchase/order options on their website

Another major Handspring announcement related to Sprint PCS. I would be really excited if Sprint offered PCS service where I live. I can't help but think I am not alone in all of this (all other carriers offer digital service in my area except Sprint)...

Isn't it really 2.5G and Sprint marketing put a spin on it and calls it 3G..?? I don't think there are any "true" 3G networks in operation in the US yet.. Japan maybe..

2.5G...3G...whatever. The point is that I'm pretty satisfied with the nice 2G 14.4kbps module they have to offer right now. I don't really need more bandwidth than that on my handheld.

FREE PHONE

Just ordered the "FREE" Sprint Phone. I really only got it for the BIGGER battery to put on my VISOR PHONE. A replacement battery from HS is more than the $49.95 i spent on the VP.

Service Plan?

I would love to get one of these, especially for the price. I know that sprint has service in my area, but 40.00 a month? holy moly. I already have a cell phone. I guess I could buy one now and wait until my contract expires? Is there any way to use these puppies without paying 40.00 a month? (okay, you know I mean legally right?).

I have a Sprint account already. I have a phone, my wife has a phone, and we have a spare phone, all drawing from the same bucket of minutes.

I plan to just transfer service from the spare phone to the Digital Link. I can already use my minutes for Wireless Web from all 3 phones, so I won't be paying any more than I already am.

Woohoo!

Just "bought" 3... one for my wife, and two just to have spare batteries. What the heck, they're free.

It's funny too... I've had several Sprint PCS phones, but the DL is by far the best phone I've had in terms of performance and connection.

It's amazing how much money one can save by not being on the bleeding edge of technology.

I ordered mine monday morning... it arrived this morning and is working now. I switched from my current PCS phone to this one in only a few minutes, although the activation instructions on the screen aren't quite accurate.

Now I just need to figure out how to get a decent web browsing session other than simple text.

Which version of blazer do you use? Blazer v1.1 comes with the module, but I saw that 2.0 is available. v1.1 seem to be showing me primarily text.

Anyone,
Does 2.0 provide better graphic capability? Am I just looking at the wrong sites? Has anyone found out where we can legally download a Blazer upgrade for free?

So many questions, so little time.
