Exclamation MemPlug Controversy

I just have to say that I think that people who are attacking Ducker's opinion on the MemPlug are way out of line. First of all, it is his opinion, not a proven fact. There may be other products out there that work better than MemPlug, but maybe he personally likes that one, which is why he said what he said. I myself do not know the product, but I don't have to know what the product is to help defend someone's opinion. Ducker did not write that quote to offend anyone in anyway. He may not have known everything about the product, but that doesn't mean that he can't say that he likes it or thinks that it works better than others - because maybe to him it does. It's like, if you read a review of a movie, and it's a bad review, do you still see the movie? I do. You can't depend solely on other people's opinion's - you have to try things for yourself. Also remember that opinions can change in light of new information, and that you shouldn't be mean to someone if they have a different opinion than you.

But what Ducker said did not come across as an opinion but rather that he was stating a fact that there is no evidence to back it up. Stating such a thing is unfair and biased against the flashplus and other methods of storage out there.

Only one post caitlin_nick, seems a little odd?

Agreed. Sure, there has been some overreaction, but it's only the
magnitude that's out-of-line, not the basic reaction. Considering
that they even awarded the FlashPlus "Honorable Mention", it's an
even more ridiculous statement.

The MemPlug is a great product. It deserved to win. But to
completely dismiss all competitors as barely existing certainly
calls into question the objectivity of the reviewer.

Arrow Hmmm

Another one hit wonder? I am very suspicious of people who sign up on VC and post one time..especially about a controversial topic such as this. Time will tell if caitlin_nick is another one post wonder.

The review thing was obviously a big deal. If it wasn't, you would not have as much post about the issue in the Springboard issue.

Question one post wonder?

What do you mean by one post wonder? I just joined, is that a crime? I agree with one thing that one of you said, that he shouldn't have just eliminated other competition, but seriously, I don't think that's what he meant by his quote. Why does it matter to you that I made a post anyways? I was just giving my opinion, as all of you seem to be doing.

Not putting words in Ben's mouth, but I think the Mike he is referring to is Mike Ducker. The guy who wrote the opinion .

Alright then. I only know him by Michael or Ducker, so I'm not used to people calling him Mike. In that case Ben, yea that's fair enough. (Seeming also that I'm a girl)

It couldn't have been Mike anyways, even in disguise do you think he'd spell check it?

I think "own the market", "corner the market", etc... are phrases which one cannot always take as fact because its used just as often if not more as an opinion. I don't understand the uproar either.

I agree with you, Matthew, on the those particular phrases are often used to state opinions. But, what's this about a spell check?

On a side note-

I noticed that we get a new members whenever:

a) someone posts something contreversial or there is an article that is contreversial in nature

b) someone has a problem with their Visor for the first time

and sometimes:

c) when someone purchases a new Visor

I know there are more Visor users out there than us. We just need to have more contreversy and get the word out about the site (I swear HS should put a link to this site on the paper in the Visor box, this is the best Visor site in existance IMO)

Even if it isn't, (I agree that it is, though,) they have links to all the other sites on the main page anyway.

This is probably the best PalmOS site going.

As for the MemPlug thing, has MIRADU even commented?

Even if it was MIRADU, and he was passing it off as fact, perhaps asking him what he meant would have been a bit more civilized. Simply asking him to support his claims or clarify his comment would have done the job just as well, instead of raking him over the coals.

This is what I posted elsewhere on VisorCentral.com

In no way did I mean to offend anyone by my comments, and in NO WAY! David, did I mean to say that the FlashPlus or FAFileMover is dead, or not a viable competitor. For people who took it that way, I apologize. The meaning of the first phrase got lost, but I still stand by my statement. My explanation:

A better term to use would be that the MemPlug leads the market, or the MemPlug owns the retail market. Therein lays my original meaning. I meant this for the brick&mortar retail. The average Joe visor user who wants more space, can go to the place they might of bought it (CompUSA maybe?) and get a module. Is a product bad if it's not sold at CompUSA? No! The Visor had killer sales, and it took more than four months for it to get into the retail market from when it was first released. I just didn't think that the FlashPlus had penetrated the consumer market as thoroughly as the MemPlug. Consumers when buying the MemPlug don't necessarily have to go through the problems of PalmGear, or have to worry about the security of buying from smaller sites on the web (which is a falsely lead fear - the small sites probably are safer than Amazon, being that hackers would go for the big sites and get thousands of credit cards, not a couple hundred, thats another discussion though ). Also I meant this, that in my opinion, throughout the year the MemPlug has been the leader. That may change though as new companies innovate, and new ideas come to the marketplace. Remember the rumers of the Innogear InnoDrive?

Both products are great products; that is why the FlashPlus got an honorable mention, it was a close second. Also both products wouldn't be around without each other. The MemPlug and the FlashPlus wouldn't be here without the original ideas by David Kessler, and the FlashPlus wouldn't be here without the MemPlug innovating the market further, and bringing flash into the module. Competition can be a very good thing, and I look forward to seeing how FAFileMover becomes better software and the future hardware that will be developed, as it things get older and more advanced. Whether it's positive or negative, I appreciate your comments; E-mail me at [email protected]

my thoughts?

less filling...tastes great? jets/giants, yankees/mets, who cares, i bought a flashplus purely because the CF card fits flush within the adapter....i think the memplug software seems pretty good, maybe even better, but all comes to fit...ability to remain streamlined, etc.

those of you who have a memplug, want to send me piviewer, etc. swap some software....
