Just thought I'd throw in my $.02 about the Visor by telling you all a story...

It was Christmas 1997 and the hot product on the market was the Canopus Pure3D 6MB Voodoo card. This sucker had everything, and everyone wanted one. But, like the Visor, it was only availible by direct mailorder and they were swamped. I jumped through all the hoops and waited and got my Pure3D.

Well, here it is 2 years later, Canopus no longer sells in the US, the Pure3D is no longer in my computer, and what replaced it is already looking pretty old to an upgrade fanatic.

So, now I have to ask myself...was the Pure3D worth it? Did I really need it right then? Do I really need a Visor right now? Do I want to go through the possible waiting and headaches? I'm still trying to figure out the answers to these questions.

BUT...do I REALLY REALLY WANT a Visor?

YEAH!!!

Happy New Year

Whats the big deal, It is 100% compatiable with the palm OS. If HS went out of business tommorrow it would not make a dam bit of difference. The other thing is that these products have probably about a 2 year life cycle, then their will be something new and better anyway.

I have the VDX for a few weeks and I think it is great.

right on sseligson. The only thing new about the Visor is mainly the springboard technology. If NO springboards were ever released as of tomorrow, you'd still have a better pda than a palm IIIx. And like you said, in 18 months or so, you're gonna upgrade anyway.

This same argument can be applied to support the IIIx. After all, if you're going to replace it in 18 months, why bother waiting for Handspring to get its act together? Better off buying the IIIx, which has a track record, is a solid product, and can be easily obtained right now.

If springboard becomes a success, you can upgrade 18 months from now. It will probably take that long for the springboard market to mature anyway.

Thumbs up

My view on the matter is that the visor is better than the IIIx, even if no springboards ever come out (and many companies already have development projects I am sure there will at least be enough for most people). Also, in many cases, you can get a visor cheaper, or at about the same price as a IIIx. Finally, about getting their act together, I ordered my BVD and it came in 2 weeks, no problems, no calls to handspring, no problems with the product. Personally, if you are gonna buy a PDA go with the visor.
