OMG!
I just had the biggest scare of a lifetime!
I had been playing around with my brand new Platinum that I got for Christmas, when I came here and read about the Afterburner update. I decided I would try it out. Baaaaad idea. it started messing with my VPL and I deactivated it. Apparently, it runs regardless of whether or not its activated, cause Benchmark kept giving me huge scores with it deactivated. Becoming paranoid of the situation, I decided to delete it. No such luck, benchmark was STILL giving me huge scores. I did a soft reset. Nope, that didn't help. I did a hard reset and restored with backup buddy. same problems. I did another hard reset, and tried to beam myself Benchmark from my bro's VDX. The two devices wouldn't even see each other! This really freaked me out! I remembered I had seen one of those shortcut-dot-# thingies that temporarily activates teh IR port. I thought I'd try it, but I didn't remember the #. I started guessing. I did shortcut-dot-1. HuGE MISTAke! My VPL emmited a steady and loud tone and locked up completely, not even responding to the power button! Then, I removed the batteries. THE WHIRRiNG CONTinuED!!!!! AHHHH! I almost pissed my pants! It got quieter as time passed. After a few seconds, I replaced the batteries, and it started up again, at full volume. I took the batteries out again, and waited a little longer. it came back on with the Palm logo. A sigh of relief. i tried beaming again. SUccess! I beamed benchmark and got normal readings. WHEW! hot Synced, restored my apps, and back to normal again.
moral of the story is:
DON'T GO GUESSING AT THE SHORTCUT #'S!!!
