I am hoping anyone of you fellow Visor users in the medical field out there (or just anyone who is familiar with these specific apps) will be able to help me out.
I have an IVD and love it. I depend on it heavily for my occupation that happens to be medicine. Because of all the data intense applications that I have and had intended to use on my Visor, I purchased the 8mg flash module. However, unfortunately secondary to the limitations of the fash module of being "read" only, I am only able to move the apps to the module, leaving the databases on the internal memory (which are extremely memory intensive, defeating the whole purpose of getting the flash module). I have tried putting both the app and database on the module, which results in crashing or an error (as expected). I have tried leaving the app in internal memory, and the databases on the module, which results in an error (also as expected). Does anyone know how to trick the program into not attempting to write back on the database so that I can store the databases on the module? I am speaking specifically of the programs: 5 Min Clinical Consult, Lexidrugs, ePocrates, and Patient Keeper.
Any help or input would be extremely appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry. It can't be done. The flash module is not capable of storing data that needs to be re-written. The nature of the architecture does not permit it. Because the data stored by these programs is in a read/write form, the application crashes if the data is on the flash module.

At least you have the Visor Deluxe with 8 mg on the handheld.

Actually some of this CAN be done. For example, for DOC type data, the latest version of TealDoc (3.10) does allow one to put DOC .pdb files into the flash without any problems.

With regards to Lexi Drugs and 5 Minute Clinical Consult from K2, from my understanding it cannot be done. However, the 5MCC put out by www.handmedical.com can be. They have an updated version of it's reader program (free to download and try) that allows the books to be placed in the Flash Rom. As you may already know, they also supply the Merck manual and a few other titles.

I hope I don't sound like I am working for these companies! Kudos to them though for modifying their programs for the Visor crowd.

However, I do have a few questions regarding the Reader app. It looks like all of the programs from Handmedical work off of the Reader app (please correct me if I'm wrong). The Handmedical website (new to me) looks like an invaluable source of information to download into my Visor (or flash memory module). But before I plop down around $200 for some programs, I would like to confirm that they would work if the databases are placed on the flash memory module (since I've already invested $120 for the 5mcc and Lexidrugs from K2, and am not able to put these databases onto the module, I'm cautious about spending more money on something I already have).
What I've already done regarding the Reader app is downloaded that into my Visor (or the flash memory module). I've also downloaded the databases for the 5mcc, Harrisons, and PDH (not being able to use them yet of course since I haven't paid for them yet) into the Visor. However, when I moved these databases from the internal memory of the Visor into the flash memory module, the same message comes across with that of other databases: "Since xxxx cannot be edited while on the module,....., moving it may cause its associated application to crash. Move it anyway?" I entered "yes" (to move it). But since I haven't paid for the databases yet and don't have the registration numbers to unlock the databases, I don't know if it's going to work (off the module that is).
It seems as if you have experience with this Reader app and the corresponding available databases for it. Can you let me know if this message is just a routine thing that comes out with any databases, and the databases and app will actually work off of the module alone (or at least having just the databases on the module)?

Hi there,

Now to answer your questions. The new version of the reader allows you to place the texts on the springboard flash memory. Just leave the reader application on the internal storage. I know for a fact that this works, I'm doing it myself right now with harrisons. All of the texts from @Hand are accessed from the reader. You must install the reader and personalize it before installing the texts. I have found the indexed version of harrisons to be very useful. It sure beats carrying the paper version around in my pocket and I can look things up alot faster.

Good luck in your future endevours. Medicine can sometimes be discouraging (with all the HMO politics going on), but keep it up, I'm sure things will brighten up in the world of health care in the future (at least that's what we're all hoping for).

Can you tell me what sections of the demo version for Harrison's and the PDH is active? I can't seem to find anything to use to compare to "the competition".

Also, does the student discount apply to Nurse Practioner students as well?
