Question

Hello,

My Prism has a screen flicker, and after reading the various threads here I sent for a replacement. The replacement behavied exactly the same. Some of the posters in the flicker threads reporsted the same problem with multiple units. Please try the following and report if your prism flickers as well. I'd like to know if all of the Prisms really have this problem or not.

I have noticed a flicker in various programs (even the main application launcher at times) but it usualy occurs (90%) of the time when I start a new game in "Pocket Chess Delux". So if you would . . .

Install the demo for Pocket Chess Delux (see Palm Gear or Handango) and no I'm not just plugging this program :-), set Your Brightness to Max, start a new game and observe the White Pieces. Do they Flicker? Please post your results.

Both Prims almost always flicker at the new game but as pieces are taken the flickering decreases . BTW intermitant problems drive engineers like me nuts.

Thanks for your time.
Alex

Note I don't consider the problem critical, just annoying. you know you pay $450+ for something and it better be damn near perfect :-)

Good game, but sorry... it doesn't flicker on my Prism...

BTW, I don't like how it creates a program group on your pc, even though you don't install the windows based version of it. Other than that, it appears to be a keeper.

Best of luck with the screen shimmer. BTW, I did not turn on any hacks or overclock the game, so it's running "normally".

Tried it, no flicker. ('tho the paint is rubbing off in SEVERAL places, but that's a different rant...)

Nope, no flicker... Also, I have read in some of the threads here at VC that depending on where you got your Prism sometimes the replacements they send out are actually refurbished...

Thumbs down

I dont know if this counts as a flicker, but I was playing a game (Zap!2016)this morning and my screen started going nuts. It looked as though the the brightness was automaticly dimming, then it stick. The overall brightness was at about 25% eventhough the slider indicated full on. After several soft resets and no results I did the next practical thing i could think of... and whacked the side of the prism, gently of course. This returned the brightness for about 5 min.
I found that by pressing one side of the case near the top would cause the screen to flicker.
So, I took it back to Comp USA and they replaced it no questions asked.

Thanks Everyone, I guess I should send for another one. Although the one I have seams to not flicker occasionally . . . I have noticed that when the unit is hot, i.e. after charging or has been in my pocket, the flicker (on both units) is very pronounced.

FYI, I would guess that the replacement unit is refurbished there is a little air under the screen and a few misc. cosmetic scratches in the spring board area. But heh the paint job is good on both units :-)

Talking Flickering NO MORE!

I noticed some slight flickering on my Prism and came across this hidden feature that allows you go change contrast - my flickering is absolutely gone! Try it out!

Go to Prefs
Change Date to Jan 1 1904
Hold down Power button
Adjust Brightness (this is actually now Contrast) to the left (maybe 1/3 of they way)
See the difference!

Make sure you change back your time.
