You must have one of those defective units that they put the button on the other side, but in order to get it to work you have to:

remove and insert your SB slot holder plastic 3 times.

spin around on your head in circle 3.1415926535897 times.

all the while singing your choice of an AC/DC song.

Then you should be able to press your defective right side power button and have the unit turn on. If that doesn't work throw it as hard as you can at the next person that comes to your door .

Arrow You would be amazed

You would be amazed at how much people do not know how to turn on the Visor and DO NOT know where the START button is on their Windows machine.

Sorry about the cross-post, even though it's not really a pet peeve, I find it funny/annoying that people see the letters MB and associate it with "memory."

"I just bought these two programs and they each take up 32 MB memory and so now I'm all out."

Actually I had to get a little more accurate for mine to work. For others that need the accuracy it's 3.14159265358979323846...

Or ask where the "ANY" key is..

I used to do PC support when I was in college (mostly for law offices), I really got asked those questions.. I also have hundreds of other horror stories from the pit of despair. One of the better ones was a secretary could only work her pc with the aid of post-it notes on her monitor in a certain sequence, well she went on vacation, when she was out her monitor died, we replaced it, but did not put the post-it notes back, she was devastated when she got back, she actually cried, tons of tears, she was not able to use her computer, I had to go down there and sit with her and walk her thru how to do things while she wrote up new post-it notes, and putting them in the proper sequence down the side on the monitor.. this is really true.. she was shaking from fear when I got there, she was afraid she was going to get fired because she couldn't do her job..

Or the office assistant that kept erasing floppies by putting the phone down on them (she wasn't even aware of what she had done, said the computer was defective). That had us baffled why her disks were getting wiped out till I went down and watched her work, mystery solved.. To her defense, the poor woman had the duty to answer three (very busy) phones while also trying to do normal office management work.

You know all those joke lists that go around about people asking dumb tech support questions, well, 90% of them are true, they happened to me!

Ugh! I hate those people. These are the people that come to ask you how to do something like "how do i send an attachement in my email" I start to show them and they go "wait...wait...let me write this down!"

It's a TWO STEP PROCESS! JUST PAY ATTENTION!

I actually don't mind helping out people, at the risk of coming off high and mighty (which if you knew me in person I am not), I think of it as missionary work.. do it for the good of mankind and all that rubbish, I help someone, then in turn they help someone else etc... (I don't see people like her as one of the "great unwashed masses" (as someone here once referred to folks lacking in computer/technical knowledge), but simply as a person who needs help and that I know the answer she is looking for.. it's fun for me to help)

umm, if someone needed help so much that they need instructions as to find the "on" switch, I doubt they would be able to find instructions buried somewhere within CNET.com.

CNET is probably just copying HS's installation/startup instructions into its database, so it can say it has a great "library" of "technical solutions". But their library is apparently just the same as the "startup" card you get with a Visor.

Nothing in life is worse then a User who thinks they know how to do something, DON'T, and show another user. It creates the downword spiral of "ID (ten) T" users who all think they know what they are doing, break their computer, and then try to tell you the technician how to fix it, and, or what you're doing wrong.

Users that don't know what they are doing and admit it are ok. Users that are experienced are ok so long as they never try to repair a broken computer. Users that are anything other then technicians should not under any circumstances attempt to repair a non working computer UNLESS they are following step by step instructions provided by a Technician..... However these instructions are to never be done agian unless instructed to do so by your friendly neighborhood tech.

Wow I feel like a doctor with all these rules.....

On to some fun stuff........ Let's see how many of your technical types can identify these nicknames/acronyms

Having worked for both a computer retailer and as corporate support, I know what you mean. My favorite personal tale to tell is about the customer that came into the store and asked if he could cut the back off of the sound card he just bought. Why did he want to do that? Because the sound card was too long for the slot he was trying to put it in. We advised him that it wasn't a good idea and helped him find a different sound card.

That's a new one,, I don't know if I ever would have been able to keep a straight face answering that one..

I had a guy once come in complaining of a non-functional keyboard, we took it out back, the senior tech opened it up (this was the kind of guy that would actually fix something rather that just swap it.. he had an EE degree and actually fixed mother boards instead of swapping them out, he was really good), anyway, when he opened the keyboard he found a fist shaped circular crack in the circuit board, when we asked the customer about the crack he claimed "His bowling ball fell on it.. " yeah right.. ok sure.., we all knew it punched it, (had little cut marks on his knuckles)..

I only have issues when people are not honest.. If you punched it, then say you punched it..

Our boss used to refer to people like him as "One of gods special children.. " (she was a former school teacher, had a nice way with words) , this was one of those folks that used to call every other day complaining something didn't work because the "computer was defective".. These people are beyond help.. You know the type, you try to help and they get insulted, heaven for bid you might actually be suggesting that he might be the problem..

I'm lost as to the meaning of yours. Pebcak was about the only one we EVER used on site.

P.S. Important Safty Tip from your uncle Lars Cuz he's here to help.

Computers don't like being plugged into 240V when the Power supply is set to 115V.
