I get e Fatal Error just as the 'cleaning up' process _seems_ to complete after a hotsync. This is a new problem that only happens sporadically. (I have added and removed several programs in the last few weeks, including the OS patch, but I do not recall exactly when the crashes began occuring.) I'm at a loss here. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks,
tyler

Tyler,

I would be helpful to know what operating system you are using, and which cradle (USB or Serial).

Oops, I wrote my first post entirely too late last night. I'm not sure what I said either!

I tried to say that I have installed the new OS patch, which means I am now running OS 3.1H3 (without the memory glitch). I am using both a USB cradle and cable with no difference in results (two different machines, one at work and one at home).

I am also running nine hacks, but none of those are new in the last few weeks.

BTW, thanks for your response.

It may be an errant application. There is a launch code (sysAppLaunchCmdsyncNotify) that is sent after the Hotsync (I assume during or after the "cleaning up" time) to all applications which had a change made to one of their databases. If some application is not handling this launch code correctly, it could easily cause the symptoms you are seeing. If the problem were not intermittent, I would suggest disabling all the Hotsync conduits, and then re-enable them one at a time until the problem reappeared. Sorry this is not much help, but maybe it can shed some light on the problem.

In addition to potter's suggestion, you may also want to perform a "warm" reset before HotSync'ing-- if that works, that at least tells you one or more of your apps or Hacks may be the culprit (and it may not be the physical app/Hack-- their preference(s) files can get corrupted and exhibit wierd behaviors).

Warm reset instructions can be found here.

Question

Tyler,

You didn't mention which Desktop OS you are using. The syncronization problems can be very different depending on which OS you are using. Are you using Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 or Macintosh or Linux?

Thanks for all the help!

My desktop OS is Win98, but the desktop portion of the sync is done before the crash happens. I think potter is on to something so off to experiment I go. I'll report back with my findings.

Thanks again,
tyler

After much fiddling, I have determined that my Visor was choking on PhlegmHack . De-activating this Hack has solved my problems. I have yet to try it, but I am going to try to reinstall to rule out a corruption of the app. If this is not the problem I will notify the author.

Thanks again for all your help. Any others experience this issue with PhlegmHack? Any ideas why this might be choking on the clean up?

According to the Visor Incompatibility list at http://www.visorcentral.com/silindex.php3
PhlegmHack is one of the guilty programs.

Contact the author, he has a interim version that seems to work fine with the Visor, including the 8MB Springboard.

Remarkably, I have fixed my problems, and I still have Phlegm Hack. It turns out that somehow during a hotsync the expense conduit was crashing, and this in turn resulted in a fatal exception during the clean up process after the HotSync ONLY IF I HAD PHLEGM HACK INSTALLED! Reinstalling the desktop software fixed whatever the expense conduit was doing wrong, and now I am error free even with PhlegmHack installed. So I guess PhlegmHack is not to blame, though I don't understand all I know about the FORMER trouble I had.

P.S. Thanks for all the help.
